I didn't ask her why she missed her vits. I'm pretty sure she had a good reason. She is a nurse as well so I am sure she is aware of the ramifications.

There NO good reason and NO excuse to miss your vites. If she is a nurse then she knows better. It just goes to show you that ANYONE can be irresponsible with their health after surgery. Even those who should know better. Your friend brought her problems on herself.

Wow thank God you did not get the DS, I could not imagine not loving myself or caring about myself enough to take my vitamins every single day.

For everyone reading this, please if you cannot commit to taking your vitamins please don't look into the DS.  The DS is an amazing surgery, it will allow you to live an amazing life but if you do not love yourself enough to commit to taking care of yourself, the the DS is not for you, look elsewhere!

"I on the other habd have gone up to 2 weeks without my 4 vitamins a day and sufer not at all. I'd choose RnY all over again in a half of a heartbeat, Nothing else would do for me anyway."

Why would you go 2 weeks without your vitamins??? That's not healthy for any post op surgery type.   Take care of yourself and take your vitamins!!!

I compared my vitamin regime to a rny friend's and I only take a couple of more pills than she does. That's another DS myth... that we take massive amounts of vitamins and are all deficient.  My post op labs are better than pre-op, because I actually take vitamins now and didn't pre-op.

Believe me if people were dropping like flies at a Raid factory from having the DS, we would not be fighting to get it for ourselves and to educate others about the procedure.

Also the bathroom issues are another myth. Not all DS'ers have bathroom issues. I have little or no gas and normal bowel movements 1 time a day.  I eat carbs, sugar, and fat in moderation. I don't count calories, and I don't restrict myself from any type of food. I just make sure I get in adequate protein and water.

And I know this surgery works, and I know I won't need a revision 5 years form now, and I know this weight wil lbe gone FOREVER!

I feel like the DS allows me to have a normal life, I eat normal food in normal portions, and I can have a normal weight.

Uh, you have one friend who MIGHT have a bit of trouble and that somehow becomes "Lots of DS'ers suffer from nutritional problems"?

Do send your friend over to the DS board.  We may be able to help.
