International Travel with Protein powders

Has anyone traveled with protein powders into Mexico?  I have a script for vitamin supps and protein powder but wondered if anyone needed to use a special request etc at customs.  We travel to Mexico annually but this is the first time since RNY and I don't want to get down there and have my protein taken as I use it daily.

Thanks for any advise you may have.

how are you getting there?? if flying just pack it into your checked luggage.

There wont be a problem getting into mexico, just coming back, but if its packed in your luggage, they shouldnt say anything about it.

If you have it in your car crossing through you shouldnt have to state it on customs forms, because you didnt buy it there, and its not fresh fruit or veggies.

Thank you!  We will be flying and I thought about checking it but was afraid to get there and it be gone.  I get about 100-120 gr a day between food protein and a shake but that is food here, who knows how grouchy pouch will do eating in Cabo.

Well, don't put it plastic bags and duct tape it to your body....that could be ugly...

You should be fine...think of how many people go to Mexico for the surgery...

Have fun and a safe trip

I had the same worry Michelle - I'm going down for my surgery in 13 days and I had no clue of how I was going to get my protein powder down - I take it to work in little baggies but I knew that wouldn't fly well with customs.  Instead, I opted to buy single serving packs of it and take those - then they're properly portioned out and clearly identifiable.

Nectar has grab n go packages of powder now that you can buy either online or at health food stores - that might be helpful for you?! I ordered a variety sample pack from them and am taking those down with me to sustain me on my flight back, because with all of the changes going on with airport security, I definitely do NOT want to mess around...*lol* god forbid that they unleash the dogs on us for trying to eat healthy.  Good luck on your trip - glad that I'm not the only one who has nightmares of being tackled by customs for smuggling protein across the boarder :)

Lighter Dayz ahead!
Cheers,

I fly internationally all the time. Absolutely do NOT carry it on!!! I would have no problem getting it on a plane in Kuwait. But get me to Amsterdam or the US and I could get  all sorts of searches.

Thanks for the post. I am getting ready to travel I believe to the Carribean. (It's a surprise trip). I didn't even think about it!

I take mine in pre-packaged single serving packets.  I get mine from www.chikenutrition.com.  In addition to being convenient, I like that I can see if anything has been tampered with.

Knock on wood, I haven't had any issues yet :)

Thank you everyone!!

It's settled, checked in my luggage and single serve packets.  I might take one on the plane with me to mix with some milk to sustain me.

I am so excited to be 116 pounds lighter this year and I think I might even try the zip line.  Woooo Hoooo.
