I read an interesting study.....
Believe me this is by no means a you don't need to exercise and eat what ever you want and you can lose weight post because we all know thats the furthest thing from the truth. We have to eat properly and do everything we can to remain active as much as we can, but for some, that doesn't mean any trips to the gym. You are doing wonderful, success is as much a mindset as anything else. Keep up the good work.

Speaking for myself, you will never, and I mean NEVER, find me in a gym. *lol* I have made a way at home to be active and I am sticking to my nutrition guidelines.
I don't think anyone would take your post as don't exercise, eat what you want or we would all be back in the boats we have ALL worked so hard to get out of.
Your success inspires me, too. So much of that here on OH, it keeps me going on the days when I think I can't do it or I will somehow fail or I don't want to pop that dvd in! *lol*
And you are correct, victory (as well as defeat) begin in the mind. So I try to keep that strongest of all. That is why I am here A LOT reading and learning from the vets.

I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate going to the gym. But I love walking outside. And riding a bike. And dancing in my living room with all the blinds and shutters closed. I have a gym membership. I haven't used it one time since I bought it this time. We renew it every year or two because there is a pool and the kids love to swim. But I truly hate the gym.
I'm thinking I probably won't be going. It's just torture for me to go there.
And I'm insulin resistant, so I'm hoping it won't cause a problem.
I am getting a Wii Fit, if that counts for anything.

*lol* I love some of the responses here! I can completely relate! I used to be a gym bunny when I was itty bitty - I was perfectly okay working in front of the meatheads but now, you won't catch me anywhere near the weight room.
I used to go and hop on the treadmill and run until my joints cried for mercy when I was pursuing the "diet and exercise" route to weight loss, but I've given up on that too...what I have been doing (that I actually enjoy) is taking classes.
Not your normal classes with bouncy suzie Q up front touting how much fun she's having while you're sweating your face off....no...the ones where I can laugh at myself and with other people. I like to take laughing yoga, beginners salsa dancing (multiple times *lol*), bellydancing, spin/cycle class and kayaking lessons. I do the things that make me feel like I'm DOING something because lord knows - I need to see the end result and feel like I'm going somewhere :)
I know sometimes they seem daunting but if you can find another girlfriend to go with you, sometimes peeing yourself laughing at eachother being unable to remember where to push the ball of energy in tai chi or looking like a chicken instead of doing beyonce's booty shake is 10x more fun than walking.
That being said - I love walking. I take my dogs to the park every other day and we spend hours wandering through the paths, but it's so much more fun with friends!
Hope that sparks some other ideas for you ladies to get out and have fun - I think it's THAT aspect of fitness that has people living longer...not necessarily that they can run miles upon miles but that they're doing what they enjoy and releasing stress/tension as they do it. We'll see how I feel about alla this post-surgery in 12 days though *lol*
Lighter dayz :)

Heidi....
very interesting stuff! I am not a huge fan of gyms! however over the years I've had memberships at a number of them- what did i lose?
MONEY! lots of MONEY... very little weight.
I guess they saw me coming.
recently- I did join Curves- this one has the advantage of being a "Smart Curves" where the machines can track my reps & energy output.
VERY TECH. each time i go back it has me push a little harder to stay in range. I'm enjoying it. GO FIGURE..
HOWEVER... I don't think this is something I will continue to do year after year. I want to get back to riding my bike for miles & miles.
I want to snow shoe again, xcountry ski again.
I'd like to go hike the Adirondacks again.
I'd like to go kayaking, and swimming!
All those things are much more fun than being in a stinking gym.
I'm referring to the last gym where I had a membership not Curves.
Swimming laps, water aerobics is wonderful!!! lol
Places that have a hang over attitude from 80's Jane Fonda VCR workouts... NO PAIN - NO GAIN....
I don't like PAIN. I don't like SWEAT!
So 3 cheers for eating right and DOING what we enjoy!

I have a Schwinn Airdynne exercise bicycle that lets you
also get and upper body exercise. Its very comfortable and
private in my own home.
If our YMCA had a heated indoor pool now my husband and
I would go. I don't swim in a cold pool or any that are in the
sun.I avoid the suns rays as they make me physically sick.
