I read an interesting study.....

About post-menopausal womyn and weight loss and how it helps their health.  The part I found interesting was the fact they divided thier study into 4 groups of diet&exercise, diet only, exercise only, and no change.  After a year the diet&exercise group had lost 22lbs, the diet only group 18lbs, the exercise only group 5lbs and the no change group basically no loss.  I was intriqued by these findings since everyone here is so pro exercise, and I am so not the exercise type.  It just proves to me that I can maintain my loss with just diet as I have been for 4.5 years, that exercise does help to move weight loss along but eating properly is really what its all about.  These study groups considered exercise to be atleast 45 minutes of "sweaty" type aerobics atleast 3 times a week.  No thanks!  I am not advocating not exercising but honestly I think walking has been and always will be the only exercise I will ever do.  Nope I have no muscle tone, and have never set foot in a gym but I do weigh 130something and intend to stay here, and I am not being ****y, I know what it means to diet when gaining back a few lbs.

The study was in USA Today yesterday.

Oh phooey.

Funny how selective my memory will be when confronted with a warm bagel.

Celery makes me sick too, how about some chocolate?

Snickers or Reeses.  You choose, I love them both, anything rich and milk chocolately is for me.  Denial makes me *****y so I eat chocolate to make the world a sweeter friendlier place.  lol  It's my story and I am sticking to it.

I have that selective memory too, oh yeah I was sick a mere hour ago, well I am good to go tomorrow again.  Duhhhhh.

Interesting I have never been the exercising type either, I am pre-op and wonder what to do post-op.  Never been to a gym either and have lost my required 5% pre-op weight with diet changes and walking, but mostly diet changes.  Congrats on success, losing, and maintaining.

Exercise is great, no one will say its not, but if you can't do it or can't bring yourself to do it don't believe you will fail as some will make you believe.  You can succeed, you just need to do whats right for you and what works for you.  Just like there are different surgeries that work differently, we are different and what works for one doesn't always work for another.  Thats why its completely up to you to make the right choice in surgery and what you eat, drink and do to move afterwards.

i think.... i THINK that it's all about the whole "healthy lifestyle" thing-- not necessarily that "exercising makes you lose weight".  exercising makes you feel physically better, releases endorphins, helps people deal with stress, combats eating due to boredom.  i have heard tell that people who have had weight loss surgery who do not exercise have had more issues with weight regain.  whenever i talk to thin people, regardless of why they are thin, most of them tend to engage in some sort of exercise.  i understand about not wanting to go-- hauling my no-longer-so-enormous butt to the gym can be a HUGE challenge to me, especially when i am tired and i just want to go home and vedge on the couch with my dogs.  but it's something i think i need to do.

i think it's great that you've maintained your weight loss and i wish you the best of luck in the future.

Most of the thin people I work with are genetically blessed and don't exercise outside of walking and eating healthy and dieting when they gain weight.  The gym is not for everyone and honestly I sincerely believe that people who try to do things they hate just because they think they have too have more problems with maintaining than people that except they can't/won't/refuse to exercise and eat they way they need too to maintain.  I am positive I would be miserable trying to make myself go to the gym, I joined earlier this year and could never even make myself go.  I had to go on a real diet to lose the lbs I regained, it sucked, but I did it and will continue to do it as needed to keep myself in my clothes.  Will I ever ben that elusive size 2 I yearn for, nope, never, its out of reach without exercise, but oh well 4-6 is pretty ******g amazing to me.

Good Luck
