Mom and I had ours in Kuwait. I have been to the Saudi border but that is as close as I want to go. I've also been to the other end of the country and walked the Kuwaiti/Iraqi border. I have no desire to go any farther in that direction either.

Our niece is in Kuwait, with 'missions' in Iraq - not fun sitting here watching the news, I'll tell ya that.  Thanks for what you do, Elizabeth!

My cousin has been here 3 times on his way North on tours. It's horrible whether you are across the border or across the world from your family in this kind of situation.

Thank your niece for what she does. What camp is she on? I might be able to bring her in a good meal. My cousin was the envy of his unit because of a steak dinner.

That's what I thought. That's the camp that the transitory units are on. I'm on Arifjan.

Emily,

Will your insurance cover follow-up?

I had my surgery 5000 miles away.  Before I left to get the surgery, I made sure that my PCP was on board with me and I made sure that there were Dr.s in the area that at least understood the DS or would be willing to learn.  I also had my PCP check for good gastro docs, endo's and hemo dr.s.  It took a little time, not that much in the overall picture though.  Once all that was in place for follow up, I was a lot less fearful of getting my surgery done away from home. Oh, and it also helped that I have my surgeons office number, hospital number, cell phone number and Home phone number and he is willing to work with any Dr.s here that I may be seeing.

Good Luck, whatever you decide!

I TOTALLY agree, Peach - 3 hours is nothing to live THE REST OF YOUR ENTIRE LIFE with the most effective, most easily lived-with procedure there is.  I self-paid and went to Brazil instread of settling for less.  You need to rethink this.  I mean, come on!  It's not like you have to drive 3 hours every day forever!  You'll only follow up with your surgeon a couple times in the first year, then annually after that.  Can't you handle that?  If not, the others are right - the DS is not for you.

Before you settle for RNY; read my profile, I had RNY for 28 years. I got revised to DS Sept. 2008 and only wish I had done it years ago. Do not settle for something you don't want, it's your life and health we're talking about.

I traveled 650 miles and self paid almost $40,000.00 to get the revision and feel like it's the best investment I've ever made. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

DO NOT SETTLE; get what you want and can live a long healthy life with.

That's great that you got a revision to DS, but I thought that it wasn't possible to have a DS after having RNY.
