Pre-ops: Make sure you learn about the DS before you chose your surgery!
I owe my life to the DS.
Pre-op, I had PCOS, type II diabetes, severe lower back pain from arthritis, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure.
Before I left the hospital, my type II and blood pressure issues were gone! Within the next few weeks, my sleep apnea and PCOS issues resolved themselves. I am happy to say that I no longer experience back pain from arthritis. I am a happy and healthy woman because I chose to o to a surgeon who performs ALL the WLS.
Every one of you reading these posts are worth the time and effort of researching all the WLS available out there and making an informed decision. It is imperative that you discuss the DS with a surgeon who actually performs the surgery.
Would you go to a Ford dealership to discuss the possibility of buying a Toyota? Of course not!

Can I get an AMEN?
I am on a similar road that so many of you have posted about. I'm Kaiser NorCal, RNY has been cancelled twice due to insufficient weight loss pre-op (can you say I lost 34 of the 40 pounds required, and it still wasn't enough?) But that's okay - that was the hand of Fate, or God, or whatever you want to call it. I came here to OH as I began ROUND THREE of trying to get a surgery date at Kaiser - this coming YEARS after starting to consider WLS.
And I got a little PM from Larra, who herself is a retired surgeon. You should really, really check out the DS, she said.
And I did.
And I debated.
And I considered the energy it would take to fight for the appeal.
And I read some more.
And I have now filed my formal grievance with Kaiser, thanks to the efforts of Larra & Diana, who helped me through the process. I'm just waiting for their big NO so I can file for IMR with the DMHC.
I'm going to see Rabkin!! :)

Now almost 4 months out I have lost 99lbs..my sleep apnea is gone..my knees don't hurt.
I eat what the hell I want..protein, veggies, fruit, take my vits...and drink my fluids. I love food and life! What a novel idea.
