Pre-ops: Make sure you learn about the DS before you chose your surgery!
Ditto, Caprice! I was thinking the same exact thing. He wants himself a little piece of the Elizabeth pie! Well eff him!

I think you do not post that often enough. You did not past that when i was deciding. i wish I knew then what I know now.
But - for time being - I will do great with what I got.
saying that - "you *****" should post that at least every week.
And I say ***** with a twist:

I was originally a dumb**** that went to her local surgeon's seminar and just accepted all that was said. I was scheduled for RNY for January 2009. I had a switch in insurance and had to cancel. I was super bummed. Then I wandered over here and read a few posts about the DS. My curiosity was peaked I went to the DS forum and read and read and read. Then I went to the regrets and revisions forums and read and read and read. I also researched other DS sites and read and read and read.
Now I am so ******g thankful that my RNY had to be cancelled. I was lucky in that I had no major insurance issues (Aetna), but I did have a lot of obstacles come up. It hasn't been an easy path to the DS for me (scheduled 11/12). It would have been SO much easier to go to the surgeon 5 miles away and just get the RNY and hope for the best (and at times on this journey that sounded appealing), BUT I knew that the DS was worth fighting for. I knew it was what I wanted based on the stats and post-op lifestyle. My surgeon asked me at my consult what I would do if I was denied the DS....Would I get RNY? Without a second of hesitation I replied, "No. I'll fight it and I'll win." He liked that answer.
Do your research. Take your time making your decision. If you have doubts, postpone your surgery. If you decide the DS is for you, then go over to the DS forum and they'll help you fight for it. You are worth fighting for. This is the rest of your life. You have to consider the long-term. Don't settle. You wouldn't settle for the most convenient spouse and they're a hell of a lot easier to get rid of than a failed surgery.
That said, I wish everyone the best of luck and great success!

A surgery war in the fall of 07, opened my eyes to the 98% cure rate for diabetes with the DS. Needless to say, that was all I needed to hear. Spent several weeks reading everything I could, asking questions and then fighting Kaiser with Diana's help, I won. I'm 18mo out and am so glad that I found out about the DS. It was worth the fight.

Hell yes- I would never recommend anything other than the DS to anyone with type 2 diabetes.
