Anyone get thrush after surgery?
I woke up this morning with my tongue all white and "furry" and my throat red. It looks like thrush. Did anyone else get this after all the broad spectrum antibiotics in the hospital. I just had surgery on Tuesday and so I am frustrated with a new issue while I am already in pain from recovery. Any suggestions?
Thrush is an overgrowth of yeast. Antibiotics will help , but they continue to deplete the good bacteria that you are deficient in. Go to the health food store and find a product that has several kinds of probiotics in it. Acidophilus, bifidophilus, there are many kinds. It would be good to have more than just one kind. I think they would also have some kind of spray for infants. The staff is usually helpful and knowledgeble. Good luck.
I am 13 days out and I too got thrush. After the first couple of days of furry tongue, this sloughed off to a smooth red tongue that is sensitive to some stuff. My doc wrote me a script for Nystatin swish & swallow. If you can't get hold of your doc, especially since it's a weekend you can try acidolpholis capsules usually found at health food stores. Yogart with active cultures will help over time. My doc is hard to get hold of and he wrote out my script last Wed. The pharmacy won't fill it due to an error and he didn't call them back on Thur, closed on Fri, so I still don't have my Nystatin. But I feel as if every day my mouth is a little more normal. I guess as your body's chemicals adjust, it begins to naturalize the bacteria in our mouths. Maybe. Anyway, good luck!
Thanks so much everyone for all the great comments and advice. I decided to call my surgeon and get some relief...she sent me to my pcp and I will see her on Monday. Until then I am just recouperating and not needing to tolerate much so I am fine for now. Thanks so much for all the encouragement and yes, Thrush is gross and I wouldn't wi**** on anyone.
