Just be aware of what drinking alcohol is about.

You have truly deluded yourself into thinking you know more than the next person, haven't you? This is laughable.
Listen closely and hear this...I know all I need to know, or ever wanted to for that matter, about drinking & alcoholism, addiction, and it's effects on body, mind, and family.
I have been married to a recovering addict/alcoholic for nearly 20 years. In addition, I have several family members who are afflicted, as well. Tell me something you think I don't f*cking know or haven't gleaned from my personal experiences!
If my husband doesn't see a problem with my choices...and he would be the expert with regard to addiction, and me for that matter... why in the hell would you? If my doctors don't see a problem, and again they are the experts, why would you? You don't know me or anyone else on this board...you only know what you are allowed to know. Do you honestly think you are going to gain some fantastical insight about everyone's lives from a few sentences that someone posts here? Think again.
Quit trying to analyze the people on this thread...no one asked for your 2 cents outside of the original poster. Worry about saving yourself from addiction until someone asks you for your supposed expert opinion, k?

I am 9 month out of RNY. At one point I had a couple of glasses of wine with my husband at home over dinner and was just fine. Then a couple of weeks ago we went out for dinner and I had a glass of wine, just 1, and had a buzz going on. So I'm not sure, but I will be really careful where and when I consume alcohol.
It's not a huge issue for me though as I wasn't consuming much of it before, just as now, socially maybe a glass of wine, that's it!

Im two years out and I will drink a little here and there. I t has not affected my weight loss in anyway.. I still excersize like crazy so that helps im sure. Alcohol hits me fast and furious, I get buzzed drunk quick then I stop drinking and sober up fast and furious. That is the part that I hate the most that is why I dont consume alcohol all the time or to often. Stay thin my friends
I will be one year post open rny in November. I do drink socially and enjoy it quite a bit. I never liked sweet drinks or wine, just not agreeable with me. I also never really drank beer because of the bloated feeling it would give me. I usually have a flavored rum mixed with soda water, or sometimes regular water and lemon or lime. It sits with me just fine, and has not made a difference in my weight loss. I should also point out though, that I have never dumped due to sugar intake. I dump only when I consume something that has too high of a fat content. I am careful not to eat obviously fatty foods...but sometimes a food item (like soup of all things) may seem like a good choice until 10 minutes pass by...and you learn that it was not prepared in a very healthy way! I also socialize with several other post-ops and they enjoy a few drinks as well.
