Just to clear up a couple of points:

First of all, no intestines are removed...they are simply re-routed.

Secondly, you lose weight, not loose weight.

Third on the list, some post-ops can very easily make due with those extra, empty calories. Some people have trouble keeping weight on, as difficult as that may be for you to understand. Some people choose to live their lives as closely to "normal" as they are able. Normal for them may not be normal, or ok, for you. Perhaps you should think about that before you judge others for their choices and lifestyles.

Finally, just because a person may enjoy a glass of wine with dinner because it enhances the experience of the food and it's flavors, it does not mean they are automatically out to get a "buzz" nor that they have a drinking problem.
In addition, simply because a person has a glass of wine, or even two, at a meal, it certainly does not indicate they intend to drive after drinking...thereby leading to a DUI. You seem to be implying that every person that drinks alcohol is also completely irresponsible and careless.

To be crystal clear, you are putting yourself out there as the one who seems to have a huge problem regarding alcohol...whether you drink it or not. It is not your place or your right to chastise others for their choices of food or drink...under any cir****tance. It doesn't matter if you are dependent on drugs or alcohol...you are behaving as though you have all the answers for every one else based on some degree you may hold. You do not. If you abhor alcohol, I would suggest that you do not partake.

I truly hope you have a fantastic day.

Thank you for writing this.  I was just about to write something similar as I continue reading posts but I promise, you were a lot nicer about it than I would have been.

I tke issue with the statement "There is one reason people drink and that is in order to cope."  Please enlighten me why I am using a wine spritzer at a wedding reception to "cope"?  I think these broad statements are ridiculous.

You make so many broad statements in your post that it totally discounts any credibility you have as a Chemical Dependency Professional.

Why so defensive. Did I hit a nerve?

Just be aware of what drinking alcohol is about.

Yep, you have hit a nerve.  My last nerve.

You are putting words in the mouths of others, making wild assumptions about people you know nothing about and then using your job as a boost to your wild claims.

Do you have any idea how much credibility you do not have?

I am too old and my skin too thick for you to even find a nerve!  LOL  Like the old saying goes.....When you point a finger at someone, you have three others pointing back at yourself.  So who's nerve was really hit? Yours or mine?!?

Also I am well aware of what drinking alcohol is all about.  What made you assume I did not.  You know what they say about assumptions........

Now grab your soap box and go home.
Thank you!

I'm not pointing a finger at anyone. You just took it that way. I simply asked why it was in issue. I don't get why anyone cares when and how much they can drink. I'm just wondering why you do.

I never accused anyone of anything. I simply stated some facts - Alcohol is not good for anyone. It is especially not good for someone who has had WLS. So why all the defensiveness.

Why is it so important for you to drink if it's not a problem?

Maybe the question is why is it so important to you not to have a drink or was it a problem?  HMMMMM?????

Anyway this post was started by OH  to find out - "After WLS, alcohol can affect you twice as much as it did when you were a pre-op.  OH Magazine/Newsletter would like to learn your prospective and hear about some of your personal expierences.  How has alcohol affected your post-op weight loss and your ability to consume even small amounts? "

Why would you even respond with your anti-alcohol rederick.  The question was directed to people that have used alcohol and it's affect on them not personal opinions about alcohol.

So once again get off of your soap box and go home.

Thank you very much.
