If all I'm going to eat is an egg, then that's exactly what I order: A side order of one egg.

Also its not that you cant order whatever you want...its that why should you pay the a la cart prices when you can pay the child menu prices...now a days a few dollars saved is worth just showing a card.

Please keep in mind that most restaurants have deeply discounted children's menus.  They do this with the full knowledge that children will be dining with their parents (adult menu).  The money the restaurant makes off of an adult ticket helps subsidize the child's ticket.  Restaurants are businesses, not charity.  They do not owe us anything.

I am not saying that people should not use the card.  Just please be understanding if they turn you down.  I am asking everyone to please be understanding of the restaurant's situation.  The economy is really tough right now and their food costs are up.  Many, many restaurants are going belly up.  They are not trying to be mean or greedy.  I was given a card by my surgeon and I refuse to use it.  However, my card does not reference a children's menu; it requests that restaurants permit me to order a smaller portioned meal.

When I go out to eat with my family, I will order a cup of soup or a wrap and eat the chicken out of the wrap.

I wish you all well.

Hugs,

Chris

I don't see any reason why you should not be able to show a card to order off of the senior or kids menu.  Now a days a lot of people want or need to save money, but that doesn't mean that I don't want to enjoy a date with my hubby.  Plus for some people ordering off of the regular full size menu might be to tempting.  I know part of my problem is I feel bad waisting food, since I was always told growing up I had to finish everything on my plate.  Something I have to over come, just as everyone else has and is working on their food issues.  So I really don't think it is far for some people to judge and criticize those that are comfortable with using the card. They are not judging you for not wanting to.  To each their own!!

"Now a days a lot of people want or need to save money, but that doesn't mean that I don't want to enjoy a date with my hubby."

Can't a date involve not going out to a restaurant that doesn't sell small portions of food?  It's obviously you know how to operate a computer.  Can't you go to a restaurant's website and see who is offering choices that are healthy and in appropriate sizes?  I do this pretty much every time I go out, knowing exactly what I'm going to order before I get there.  I have no problem getting exactly what I want.  It couldn't be easier.

"Plus for some people ordering off of the regular full size menu might be to tempting."

So much for personal responsibility?  C'mon!

You're right, to earn our own opinion on this matter.

You can get the card from your surgeons office. Just for the record I don't think that it's "special" treatment or a discounted rate when you order from the kids menu, I think you get what you pay for. A smaller portion does come with a smaller price. You cold stay locked up in your hotel room while your friends/family go out but why should you punish yourself? I say if you feel comfortable with letting people know that you have had surgery than by all means use the card.

Why on earth would you want to flap a card like that in public? That is just silly and totally unneeded. If a restaurant wouldn't let me order anything I damned well please, I would walk out. Period. They are there to serve me, the paying customer, and if they can't figure that out, then they can't have my business. I do not need to offer ANY reasons or excuses for my preferences. Any customer service person who thinks s/he can inflict that crap on me is in for a loss of a sale at minimum and a fight if I'm in the mood to be a *****

i got the card from my surgeon.   I have no intention of ever using it.   I'd be happy to send you mine if you like.

the stuff on the kids menu sucks.  everything is fried.

i realize you are in a bad situation that you have no control over.... I wish luck.  even with the card they do NOT have to honor it.   I think if I did try to use a card and I was told NO I'd be a bit embarrassed and upset.  not conducive to a good meal.

I never agree with Christopher from LaVerne...on anything...but this one time he's right on.

The cost of your lunch in a restaurant consists of the cost of their rent, their utilities, their insurance, their payroll, printing menus, advertising, their dishes and glasses, their appliances and so on...NONE OF WHICH CHANGE JUST BECAUSE YOU EAT LESS THAN YOU DID BEFORE.  The only thing that changes is that you eat a little less food...but the food is a SMALL part of the cost of a restaurant meal.

The cheap child's meal is to lure in the child's parents.  It isn't about "paying for what they eat."

If you cannot afford to pay your share of the rent, utilities, insurance, payroll, printing, advertising, dishes, glasses, appliances and other costs they have to pay in order to stay in business, then stay home.  If you CAN afford it, stop whining.

I got the card from my surgeon and *LOVE IT*!  I have used it several times but more people don't even care to see it when I order a small portion.  I order from the childrens menu all the time and lots of times just order a side salad or something like that.  If my using my card here and there no more than we go out to eat anyways is not paying their rent, lights, etc...then they don't need to be in business anyways!
