Have you looked at the revisions and complications boards yet? And have you looked into the DS?

My only regret is that I did not have it sooner!

I too say now that I do not regret having the surgery and I am so glad I did it but a lot of people will say that after a week or two out of surgery they had the thought of "Should I have done this?"  you may go through a time a few weeks after that you are not sure if you should have but once you pass the pain and get back to eating regular and are losing the weight you will be overjoyed!  I am so glad now that I did it.

First of all, I would discount any answers to this question which are made by people less than 5 years out.  You need to know how people feel LONG TERM -- and especially after the period of time when the regain is likely to be affecting them.

Spend some time reading here:  http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/any_wls_regrets/

And yes, make sure you are making an INFORMED decision, especially if you have not learned much about the DS.  I suspect DSers are the LEAST likely to have long term regrets.

No regrets here.  Due to persoanal family problems I was unable to have this done a year ago, alas I had RNY on 7/14/09.  2 mos. out, 50 lbs. gone and never to be seen again.  I just registered to walk in a 5k here in Long Beach, CA.  I must be nuts, I have never done anything like this.  My husband agrees but he is supporting me all the way.

Good luck with your surgery, keep us posted on the boards.  I have to be honest and admit that I attended 2 support groups b/4 surgery and they were completely boring.  I have not returned to support group meetings.  The support I get here on the OH boards is fabulous.  There is a group of us that meets once a month (the group gets bigger every month), we do a clothing exchange, and sometimes go to lunch afterwards.  I love the LB Coffee Group, and all the friends I have made on OH.

NO REGRETS!  I can't imagine how my life would be now if I hadn't done it - if I was even still alive.  I can now LOVE ME for the first time, and I love my life!   WLS truly is the miracle we all hoped for.  Just follow the rules, and you'll be fantastic.  Some day you'll see someone else asking this same question, and you will be able to answer "No Regrets" too!

I agree with one other poster.  Look to the members who are more than 5 years out.  I do not have any regrets in having the surgery.  But i do have regrets.  This surgery is not a magic bullet, it is a reset button.  It will bring you down to the weight you want, and YOU have to maintain it.  I have had bounce back weight.  And it is 100% my own fault.  I did not learn to eat correctly in the two years out of surgery when it is most important to learn new life skills.  You MUST exercise, you MUST learn to eat the correct foods.  Thank God, i dump on sugar, otherwise i have no doubt i would be even heavier that i started out.  I can however eat carbs, pretzels and cheez its are the devil.  I can eat them with no problem.  In the first 2 years, i could eat anything without sugar and the weight melted off.  and i didnt learn a dam thing.  I now have bounced back 50 pounds.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE......dont think of this as a magic bullet.  You have to work hard.  This is the true reality of WLS.  the farther you get out, the easier it is to bounce back.
I hope I did not scare you.  I hope you have the surgery and have the weight loss you want.  But you and you alone have to keep it off
