Breakfast Cereal Question

I am 8 weeks post op as of yesterday.  For the last week, I have been craving breakfast cereal.  After doing a bunch of research, I came up with Special K, protein plus.  Its low enough in carbs per serving size and I didn't have a full serving size, so I'm good.  Or so I thought.

I put the cereal in the bowl, I added half a cup of skim plus and went to town.  It didn't sit well in my pouch AT ALL.  Then it dawned on me.  If I'm eating cereal with milk, aren't I drinking while eating?  And isn't that a huge NO-NO?  I don't think that's why it didn't sit well, but it IS a no-no ... No?

Am I wrong, or do I now need to throw out the box of cereal I just bought?

beside drinking with a meal - cereal - even high protein - unless was designed for bariatric patient are full of carbs. Skim milk - also carbs. so what you are eating is a very carby meal. First thing in the morning. Not so good.
If I really want cereal - i eat RNY designed / friendly oatmeal that I add some protein powder to.  I make it thick.

I don't see where cereal with milk would be any different than eating a bowl of soup.  They're both slider foods and would go through the pouch fairly quickly.  OK every once in a while, but expect to be hungry faster than if you ate more dense food.

I rarely eat cold cereal.  Whenever I do, I have Kashi Go Lean Crunch.  I like it dry with nuts added and eat it like a trail mix.

My favorite hot cereal is oatmeal with cinnamon and a spoonful of peanut butter stirred into it.

Hi there,

I did the same thing early out and I dumped almost immediately. Seems the carbs and the milk together
just did not sit well. I add my cereal to my yogurt and
this seemed to be easier on the pouch.
My doctor said that a lot of RNY people develop lactose
issues after surgery.

I do try to stay with oatmeal but if I have more than 1/4 cup
of even skim milk with carbs I dump, even now at almost 6yrs out.

It may just be too early out for you. stick with the oatmeal
for a while or even cream of wheat till you are further out.

Good luck on your journey...Laurie

I have a cup of Special K protein plus every morning with about 3/4 cup of skim milk. Love it and I have never had a problem with it. Maybe add a little less milk next time.

Milk with cereal bothers me, even though I can handle soup.  I don't know why.  I like to put Kashi high protien cereal in Greek yogurt.  That pumps up the protien amount.  If I don't have high enough protien in the meal, I'll either dump, or get very very sleepy.
