WLS'rs- Why do you do this to yourselves?

I think one issue is apparent in this very post. There are at least 3 posters replies on here that make it clear reading comprehension is an issue. It's hard to absorb information if you misread words, or apply new meaning to the words that are read, or simply don't bother to read at all.
It seems to me to be the issue every time I read one of these threads and why I think that they are ultimately so unproductive.
I respect your choice but I would never make the same one. I am very happy with the choice I made. I am a vey educated person and did a lot of research. One party does not have to be wrong for the other to be right. We can both be right in terms of having done what is best for us as individuals.
If the topic were approached from this POV I think that we would see much more real information exchanged as opposed to sniping, and I'd enjpy that.
However, I have to agree with the poster that this site has degenerated into entertainment and not support or education.
That is unfortunate. No matter what surgery we have had, we are all in this together.
JInPA--I couldn't agree with you more--
Other people's opinions and beliefs are not respected at all and it has degenerated into an DS vs. RNY vs. Sleeve vs. Lapband. WLS itself is the tool-not a pouch or a reduced size stomach or a sleeve. I think some of that is lost here. I absolutely agree with your statement that the failure to respect each other's choices or to believe that it is possible to actually make an informed medical decision that differs from their own is also very prevalent. I also am of the opinion that the more you attempt to project your point of view, you are slammed. Many of us put up with that behavior being MO-this behavior should definitely not be taking place on a site where support and education is the goal.
I live by the belief that everyone makes their own choices for different reasons. DS'ers--Please don't direct me to the dsfacts site as your response--I do not think there is anything in there about respecting other people's choices. As JinPA said "One party does not have to be wrong for the other to be right. We can both be right in terms of having done what is best for us as individuals."
JinPA-you are also right about that "No matter what surgery we have had, we are all in this together.

As for the poster who is soooo concerned about us DSers when we get old, she should know that B-vitamin deficiencies are the ones that really make a person go nutty, so I hope she has someone to watch her when she's old and feeble.
