Oh no I already do the shuffle walk to the bathroom to fart! I haven't even had the surgery yet! I love the song Sober by Pink...Totally made me cry when i first heard it. I can totally relate to it!

I have had some smelly gas. I got some tablets from my doctor. They are specifically for smelly gas. They are colon deodorants and I can't think of the name of them. Ask your surgeon.

I've had less gas than before, and I don't notice a change in odor.  But I've always loved milk and so far, I'm digesting it just fine (knock on wood).  Now the burping, that's a whole 'nother story. . .

Gas as a rule is pretty controllable by what we eat.  The three biggest causes of gas are:

1) Simple carbs (breads, sugars, pastas, etc)
2) Artificial Sweeteners
3) Lactose Intolerances (may include whey protein, and may not include
all lactose products)

You can try eliminating these one at a time or all at once and see if you notice a difference after a couple of days.  Then reintroduce one at a time and see what gives you a reaction to pinpoint the culprit.

Now, if none of that works, you may have an overgrowth of bacteria in the small bowel.  You can try adding probiotics if you don't already (I find a daily cup of yogurt works wonders for me).  The last step is
seeing your doc for a course or two of antibiotics, which you will follow with probiotics.  Flagyl seems to be the antibiotic of choice.  I used it about a year and a half out myself.

Heidi you crack me up!!!  LMAO!!!LOL!LOL!!!!!!  You are so silly girl!!  Well my personal experience is that I havent had a problem with gas since after the surgery.  I notice that some foods cause me to have gas though like, protein bars, or artificial sweetners.  But other than that I have the normal every once in while gasses  that come along with human nature.  So I do agree that I think it is certain types of food, and I have also heard about people being lactose intolerant after surgery, and I also heard about people having like a bacterial thing goin on so I guess it just depends on the person.   You will be just fine!!

So my coworker told me of a horror story that one of his old coworkers got the gastric bypass surgery and afterwords he said that she had the worst smelling farts and that she farted all the time. Is this true?? Is it a case by case situatuion or commom?? Please let me know!!
Malabsorption causes there to be more food available for the bacteria that lives in the gut. The more food, the more bacteria, the more bacteria, the more gas. And the smell changes, too, but I can't really say mine are worse than pre-op---just different.

I went with the DS, and I actually have LESS gas than I did pre-op. And it's never 'uncontrollable'---rather the opposite. My biggest complaint with post-op gas is that sometimes it's really hard to pass it.

I had really hoped this wasn't true. I am preop and I am afraid if this is true it might be grounds for divorce from my husband...LOL
