Irregular Z-line???
I had my endoscopy today, and my surgeon explained all this to me, but I can't remember exactly what he said because I was all doped up...but my paperwork says z-line irregular, 40cm from incisors, and hiatus hernia. I know what the hernia is, but what does the irregular z line mean? I know he took a biopsy of something. I see him in a week and I'm sure he'll go over all this again, but I'm just curious now that I"m conscious lol.
Oh don't I know it! He's so friendly and caring, and takes the time to explain EVERYTHING, not only to me, but to my family as well. Yesterday with my endoscopy, I was telling my mom how I've NEVER EVER EVER been in a room full of doctors and nurses that were not only so friendly with eachother, but so friendly to me as well, and I acutally felt like everyone in that room cared about me. Everyone I've talked to that's had Dr. Dunnican has said nothing but wonderful things about him, and it's so reassuring to know that the guy slicing and dicing your guts actually cares! And he's pretty darn good looking too, so that's a plus! lol
I also had an irregular z line before having my surgery and for a better explanation I checked the internet and found this:
If you get a lot of acid reflux from your stomach into your esophagus, the appearance of the Z-line may change. In this case, it had apparently changed enough so that the endoscopist felt that a sample should be taken to look at the cells to see if they are abnormal. "Histology" is the study of cells.
Since the endoscope measures distance from your front teeth (incisors), the report is saying that the Z-line was 40 cm, or a little less than 16 inches, from your front teeth.
If you need to know what exactly was found, you are going to need the histology report
