Not telling I had gastric bypass. Medical Bracelet abbreviations

I would put what you had as gastric bypass surgery. I would also put the info about the tube that cannot be used. I have run across doctors that asked me what the medical term was for my charts because they did not know. There are rescue, EMS, EMT's, etc.. that are not educated in this surgery. Your life and safety are more important than what is written on your bracelet. Also, friends may need to know in the case that you are with them and something happens. It is your preference to hide it, but I say be proud of what you have done and what you have accomplished.

Most people see the medical alert bracelet, and look away. It's private, and even children know it.
I'd really rather not have EMT'S/ Ems guessing. but, It's up to you.

I didn't feel the need to put "No Sugar" on mine.  Especially since it already says I'm diabetic.  I may not need medication for my diabetes, but I still have insulin resistence so it needs to be noted.

Thank you Sandie for  the compliment on my weight loss in 3 short months. I'm soooo happy about it too.

Thanks to all for your opinions. I learned alot. I'm just gonna buy one of those leather bracelets. Not going to go with any BLING BLING

I'll show you what I get engraved on it after I order it but it's not going to say "Gastric Bypass".

Thanks again for all the great advice everyone. Even the nice people that said... "Put Gastric Bypass on it.."  I made me think twice but too many people know what that is & I don't want to deal with anyone giving me their opinions on the surgery unless I ask for it.

Who knows... if I make my weight goal  I might get a "Gastric Bypass" tattoo across my chest...

Bye,....

Ok - I'm wondering why is it you are getting the bracelet - is this something that was recommended ? If so why? I hadn't heard it before reading this post. Very curious now.

Highest (that I know of) 285  Weight when I started the process 277
Night before surgery 263
  Goal weight 160

Search "medical bracelet" on this site.

You will see opinions from both sides. I was advised by my nursing staff to get one.

I haven't told anyone about my gastric bypas other than my husband and medical professionals. Actually I should have gotten myself a Medical Bracelet long time ago considering my healht issues. Now that I have had this procedure I will finally order one. Another thing that can be useful to have on a bracelet is one's religious affiliation.
