Ok, this morning I posted about me coughing up some mucus that had some light colored blood in it...........after reading the posts that others posted about this I am now freaking out. Someone said aspiration pneumonia???? It was only that one time but now I am scared....I looked up aspiration pneumonia and people die from this, wow, really scared now. But I am not gonna bother my dr. since it only happened that one time............will call tomorrow when he is in the office just to make sure I am gonna be ok........can anyone re-assure me that maybe it was just a one time freak thing?????

yup, sure can.  First, how long have you been coughing and how hard have you been coughing?  It is very possible that you just broke a blood vessel while coughing...that is why the blood is light and not very plentiful.

Certainly call your doc if it persists.

It was jus that one cough when I got up, again I use a cpap and it seems my throat got a bit dry while sleeping, I coughed to clear it and that is what happened, it wasn't a hard cough. And I cough each morning when I wake up, when using my cpap there is mucus each morning but not with blood.

I agree with the busted blood vessel thing that the other person said.    You said that you wear a cpap machine. That air can really dry out your nose and throat, and I believe that can cause a little blood when you cough and rough up your throat. Its probably nothing since it just happened that one time.

I'm sure your fine and if you have had a cough and have been coughing hard its from that. your not going to have aspiration pneumonia unless you inhaled something (food/ liquid) into your lungs. I wouldn't stress about it at all.

Your very new out. You do know that they put a tube down your throat during surgery? If it only happened once it may be just some left over dried blood from surgery. That being said you may just want to call your Surgeon in the morning to get this checked.
If you had pneumonia your chest would have pressure, you would have a temp. heavy coughing...be tired and all over achy.

hope your feeling better soon...Laurie

The intubation is possible but several weeks later, not very likely to be a cause of visible bleeding.

Also, pneumonia can have varying symptoms. I spent 23 days in the hospital once with Pneumonia and NEVER had a fever with it. I had a cough, no chest pressure. The cough progressed to the point that I broke multiple ribs as a result...but no chest pressure and no fever.

A Chest X ray is a good way to determine if there is pneumonia.

Another though---maybe some "red dye" based food or drink that the poster does not recall having?

I am not coughing hard but as I said I cough each morning to clear my throat from wearing my cpap, and there was no red dye I had that I am aware of. I am still going to call the office in the morning to be safe........

I know that we all offer one another invaluable help and support on this message board, but I think that when it comes to issues such as this one, none of us have any business "guessing" at what this could be or offering a simple "you'll be fine."  These are serious matters that should only be addressed by your QUALIFIED surgeon or doctor.  As much as we all want to be able to reassure and support one another, this is too important of a problem.
