And she didn't tell anyone because she knew exactly how she's be treated in Hollywood.  And there are those types like my cousin that refuses to talk about it.  Her life as an obese person never existed in her mind.  I guess she feels so much shame connected to it and yet I won't shut up about it.

Karen do you think Oprah's in denial?  I feel like her weight is the topic she's talked about more than anything for all these years LOL.  I don't see the show that much but if I happen to be home and it's on, I figure I have about a 1 in 5 chance she'll be talking about her weight!

I'm much more intrigued to find out when she'll finally come clean and admit that Gail's her real husband!  LOL.

Best to you

Mike

RNY on 08/18/09 with

i see Oprah a being self centered. whenever she does an interview with for example a rape victim, she always winds up talking about her own experience instead of staying focused on the guest. i find that to be rude to the guest. she does this to any guest that she is interviewing that she may have something in common with. whatever the subject is. the way i see it is if she wants to talk about herself, have Barbara Walters invite her on to 20/20. also, i remember about 3-4 years ago she had a show on dramatic weight loss.  one person from NY had wls and i believe plastic done. can anyone remember what her view was at that time?  she actually had a sit down with this woman. the other women that she showed their before pictures and then had them walk out on stage to show the after, quiet a few said ls is how they did it. does anybody remember?

I have to totally disagree with you about Oprah. I watched the show today and I think she wanted to focus on someone else for a change.  Oprah has been talking about her weight issues and how she has struggled for more than 20 years.  Obesity is a big problem in this world today all you have to do is read this site to discover some of the problems people are having and the search for help.  I think she is bringing the fight and the struggle to the public.  She has stated that losing weight is not an easy task if so with all of her money she would be a size 6.

Just my opinion too.

I think she's doing the best she can and like I said to Karen, I think it has more to do with the people she's surrounded with.  I mean....you've got a trainer that says "You can do it" and he's never had a problem in his life.  She COULD also possibly be truly afraid of cross addicting.  She surely couldn't afford to mess up her vast empire with a cross addiction but the thing is, she's got enough therapists around her to help her with that.  Nobody can change or fix her metabolism.  And you know how bad her addiction is when she has to be held accountable in front of TV cameras every day.  One of the main reasons I stay on the boards is to keep myself accountable.  She's got to feel like the biggest failure because of the weight issue and my wish is that some day she'll do it.  I don't even care what excuses she gives....it would serve to change a lot of people's view point if we could get her over to our side!!

There's a blog I read from time to time that had a really interesting take on the Oprah situation and her weight.

http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/metabolism/oprahs-plight/

He speculates as the some of the reasons he thinks she's had weight problems. Some of them are metabolic, others have to do with the team of "experts" she has at hand.

I also remember reading somewhere else that another health professional was postulating that O might have a condition called Hashimoto's, which I gather is a specific kind of thyroid disease.

I too was just diagnosed with hypothyrodism and it wasn't pretty....especially the morning I woke up with ten pounds extra.  Confusion, fatique, depression, the list is long.  Within 3 days the pounds are gone and everything is back to normal.  It is manageable with medication.  I am one very relieved person!

I just do not understand what the problem is with people. We have tried everything and this surgery save lives every day!! It should not be shameful to anyone. I am grateful to have had this opportunity and will proudly tell anyone that I had it.
