Yvonne: Kudos to you for your wonderful video! You brought up so many excellent points.  I had my RNY in AUg. 08 and am down 127 lbs.  It literally has saved my life. I have been morbidly obese my whole life (54 yrs. like you!) I cannot believe the difference it has made already.  I still have at least 125 more to lose but I am half way there and could not even have gotten this far without this surgery.
I wish someone would email Oprah this website so she could see for herself just how many people wls has saved/or helped live quality lives.  I do believe that Oprah, like myself and others, has many factors contributing to our morbid obesity, with genes playing a big factor also.
Aynyway, Yvonne, your video was entertaining, enlightening and delightful all in one.  YOu are a very clever and honest person.  Many blessings to you for trying to help others.  GLad to hear you are so successful.  Mary

I just got an email from a friend BEGGING me to not have RNY in June, because OPRAH just reported that someone died on the table from it.

For crying out loud - did she mention if the woman had other health concerns going into this surgery?  I would amost bet my life on that she did.. Or had issues they did not know about prior to surgery.

It is sad that the woman died, but the odds of me dying in a car accident on the way home are much higher.

Dr. Benn gave me an incredible tool.. and I intend to make the most out of it!!

You have a very good chance of dying just by leaving day to day obese.

I believe the woman they are talking about on Oprah was 900 pounds.  I imagine that much weight comes with a host of life threatening problems with or without surgery.

You're correct.  Either 800 or 900 and most docs won't touch someone at that weight. The second story is coming up and she's already said he lost 300 pounds but we'll see how the spin goes on this one.

The woman was 900 pounds.  She didnt die on the table, she died 12 days later.  Honestly, that lady's heart could have stopped at any time, because it had worked so incredibly hard for so long.

I just went on the oprah website and saw the previews - the woman was the one that TLC did the show about.  She was always concerned and if I remember the doctor said that she was gonna die from her heart giving out if she didnt have surgery.  Her daughter on the show said after her mom died that they kept filming because she wanted to help others.

Then they promote Ruby taking a rare look at obesity rehab hospital.  TLC has done several shows about Brookhaven Obesity Clinic.  So I dont know what the mystery is.

I guess I just get tired of Oprah.

I would also beg you not to have RnY, but I would be begging you to have the DS!

Please don't let your  'friend'  freak you out.  You aren't going to die on the table.  People that do, or shortly after WLS, are VERY RARELY due to the WLS, and are almost always because they have other health concerns.  This is why I hate the insurance hoops of making people actually being sick to have WLS, instead of seeing it as a preventative.
