you Andrea! Thank you for posting this! I have always appreciated you, Vitalady, Pam and Poet Kelly working to help us educate ourselves as Bariatric paitients on what we need vitamin wise!

As an example...While my B12 is "awesome possum" (over 2000) I cannot get my Calcium up no matter WHAT I do... (I am using Celebrate Chewable Calcium 3-4 times a day). I take also Carbonyl Iron but have a question about it...

Tender Iron contains Calcium in it...Does this interfere with the absorbtion? I was always told do not take calcium (citrate) within 2 hours of doing Iron.

I also use Bifera, just to get some additional Iron in. (since mine is "normal" by lab standards, but slightly low by Bariatric Standards)... I eat a ton of Heme Iron (steak, Lamb, red meat...At least 3-6 oz daily.

Why my Calcium is so off kilter, I have no idea...And am getting Osteopenia (the step before Osteoporosis). Maybe it was YEARS of Methotrexate and Prednisone that screwed up my calcium absorbtion...I don't know.

Either way, thank you so much for posting this.
I honestly think some doctors recommend "Flintstones" to paitients because 9,10, 12 years ago...Except for "kids vitamins" (like Flintstones) there was NO "chewable adult vitamins. All there was, was Flintstones (and Tums) and doctors can be "slow" to change at times.

WE are the new "generation" of helping Surgeons learn about Vitamin deficiencies and Reactive Hypoglycemia, etc. 10-20 years from now, things will be light years ahead. (One can hope).
Keep up the good fight!
Warmly,
Jackie

You mention your calcium.. what is your D and PTH doing?

The calcium in the Tender Iron is not enough to bother it.  It is a binding agent only.  Ionic iron is not inhibited by calcium until 300mgs of calcium.  Heme has a tolerance of 600mgs.

I use the CVS generic equivalent of Centrum that I buy on 2 for 1 sale. Then I add iron and a bunch of others.

((((((Andrea!!!))))))) So nice to see you back!

For anyone Newbies or Veterans Andrea is one of the BEST people with vitamin advice. She has helped me tons.

Andrea, PoetKelly and VitaLady are all awesome folks if you have lab questions.

Please, please, please....listen to them. Flintstones (or those nasty GUMMY VITAMINS) are crap. You will hae severe nutritional problems and can die. Tums are crap.

we NEED Carbonyl or Heme Iron, a GOOD Vitamin (I do Centrum Silver Chewables and Bariatric Advantage High ADE&K) Calcium CItrate (there is one with extra Magnesium and Vitamin D3 that helps prevent constipation) and I do Proferren ES Heme Iron and/Or VitaLady's TENDER IRON (Carbonyl)

My labs are ALWAYS Spot on and if anything run a wee bit in the high range (My b12 last time was 3300 and I was told to back off to every other month and retest in 3 months). But it ALWAYS runs high, I'm a rare RNYer who seems to absorb my B12 very well.

Good luck and THANK Vitamin Helpers! ALL of you are lifesavers!
Warmly,
Jackie

My D was tanking (this was several months ago) so I bought some Dry D3 50,000 iu's and also the 5000 iu and have been using them. A PTH was 44.

Thanks again for sharing all this info with newbies (and veterans alike!)
*BUMPING* so others can read your post...

Warmly,
Jackie
