I was 48...and did fine. You might want to lurk around on the weight loss surgery in your 40s board. Congrats and good luck.

Yup...I'm 45 and had my RNY 1.5 years ago and have lost 109 lbs.  I'm in the best health in my adult life.  Since I carried all of my weight around my midde (apple shape) for so many years, I have alot of hanging skin on my stomach and hips and back.  I'm planning on a LBL in October.

I am 47 and had RNY 6 years ago and my regret is... only that I did not have it done sooner! Yes, it may take harder work then someone who is younger to get toned and into shape... but,  you can do it! Good luck and God Bless you... 2 weeks will fly by... :-) you'll see.

Congrats on your decision to improve your life!!!

63 at the time of surgery and down about 85 pounds in seven and a half months since. I feel wonderful, and think I don't look bad. Of course I have some excess skin, but don't even think about it except when totally naked in front of a mirror (rare).

I am 47 and had mine Jan 21, 2009. I thought the recovery was harder than I thought it would have been...... 23 years ago I had open gallbladder, and the following 2 years each had C-sections.......however they were with morphine, this one not because I always puked with morphine and that wouldn't be cool....with the pouch and all.

Glad I did it! It will take longer than these young whippersnappers (there was a thread on here the other day about how easy it was, they were ALL young! LOL)

I will worry about the skin as it becomes an issue..... will see, I am just happy to reach where I haven't in quite some time! LOL Just stay on top of your bowels..... the protein diets really block you up!

Hi! I was 49 when I had my surgery May 29, 2008. I've lost 125 lbs., and I feel fantastic! I do have some excess skin, but nothing the right undergarments won't take care of. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Best of luck to you,
Jenny

I was 54 when I had my RNY. I did end up having plastics, and I'm still not going to wear a bikini, but I don't look too bad for an old lady.

I'm 57 yrs and am 6 mos post op.  Everything went well.  Remember to follow your doctor's instructions and you should do fine.  Just had my 6mos visit and am down 80 pounds. Yes I do have some loose skin but am not overly concerned at this point.   Good  luck and God bless.
