Is there a thread on this site for folks that are serious about losing weight?

Why don't you try the "Weight Loss Surgery Graduates Forum"????  I am a little over 2 years out and have gotten lots of support from this sight.  In fact, OH is my main support and has helped me immensly to get through this and stay focused.

I rarely exercise, but I'm not beating myself up about it.  I don't drink anything 1/2 hour before, during or 1/2 hour after meals.  I try to stay away from carbs, because like MM they make me bloat and gain weight.  I rarely eat sugar or foods made with sugar.  If I bake, I use soy flour, almond flour, and Splenda.  I get my 64 oz or more of fluids per day and I take my Iron, Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D, and B-12 daily.  At first I took Biotin to help with the hair loss and to strengthen my nails after surgery.  I also drink at least one protein drink a day to be sure to get in my total grams of protein per day.

Now go find that graduates group and maybe they can help you understand what successful weight loss patients do.  Remember, this is serious business, but we can have a little fun too!!!!

. . . a group imposed set of rules would encourage only those with long term success to recommend food choices, tricks of the trade, excercise and such. . . .

Because, believe it or not, newbies do bring some positive to this party!  There are some (not all mind you) "old-timers" that get in a rut. . . don't search out any new products or information. . . if it ain't broke, don't fix it kind of thing.

Newbies, while filled with questions, are also fresh out and have a new outlook on this journey.

If you want this all condensed and homogenized you are in the wrong place and should take your attitude elsewhere.

Yea, I do.  I don't want to reinvent the wheel.

My attitude tends to stay with me wherever I go!  It's part of meeeeee!

And I know you don't want ME to leave.  I'm the most fun this board has seen since......since.....since the Lard Log was invented!!

alleygnat, it seems to me that you may be just as hard on yourself as you are being on everyone else today.   This too, can set you up for failure.   If you know what your nutritionist expects of you and you know the right amount of protein, fat , carbs, etc. that you should consume in a day then you will be fine.  There are going to be people who cross the line every day and play with fate.  In the end they will see what it costs them.  But you can only worry about yourself.

I think you are very fearful of failing.  Don't be.  Take it one day at a time and study, study , study to make the most of your weight loss journey.

And remember, some people are bound in addictions to food.  That doesn't just go away overnight.  This person may need a healing in this area in order to stop making those "pre-surgery" mistakes.

It's okay to "call 'em on the carpet"  when we see dangerous habits form, but we can do it in kindness.   We are all here to encourage one another.  I have been so encouraged on this site and I hope you can be too.

Obviously you don't understand the sense of comraderie and community that comes complete with joking and poking.   Trust me, they (we) are all serious about losing weight, otherwise we wouldn't have done something so drastic as wls.  Levity is often appreciated, so relax.  If you can't, find a drill sargeant instead of a wls community.

The last thing needed is self-righteous judgement like yours.

I know where you are coming from, kinda...sorta.  I get tired of the threads like "When can I have a soda???" or "Can we eat popcorn?".  It's like, why on earth would you want to go back to old habits when those habits got you to needing/wanting WLS?  However, I just read the thread, shake my head and move on.  It's easier for me to be concerned with my own journey than everyone elses.

I had my RNY nearly 5 years ago and guess what?  I eat full fat foods AND carbohydrates and have maintained my weight loss with very little effort.  Moderation is the key.

Take what you need and leave the rest.  *****ing about not getting what you need, rather than taking the initiative and creating what you need, will get you nowhere.
