What is your take on protein bars?
190 Calories
20 Protein
2 Sugar
6 Fat
and some other things in there....
Now, mind you i can't eat an entire one at a sitting -- but i think it might be a great way to boost my protein. I'm in the midst of a stall and am trying to up protein and water intake. But, can't do that with just what i'm eating daily...
I was wondering if we should be eating protein bars or if we should avoid them? I honestly don't know...so i'm really wondering -- any anysight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone!
Oh, and i'm almost 4 months post op...
Thanks, again!

I hear of people using the protein bars are a meal replacement or one whole bar as a snack every day. By that I mean a bite or two as a snack, a few times a day. >_< I found a decent bar as a meal replacer, it has quite a bit of fat/calories though. I think its 350 calories, 12g fat but 2g sugar and 30g protein argh! The worst part...its PEANUTBUTTER >_< whhhyyyy.
Oh my...I just spazzed. My bad!
Anyway, seems youre doing great and I bet youll get over that stall soon. One disgusting option to get both protein and water...you can mix your protein powder in water. I have to do it :( I can chug it down in two drinks. Then I have those little shudder-shakes because its icky! Thats just because I cant take milk/soy milk. Vanilla powder gets really thin and nearly tasteless in water, its weird.
Now Im just rambling...

As long you feel like you have eaten a meal afterwards, I don't see a problem with them. The problem SOME people (and it is only SOME people) have is that they don't feel mentally like they have eaten a meal when they eat one. So they want to eat more. But in MY opinion, most of that is a mental issue.
Personally, protein bars leave me more satisfied than "real food" sometimes. However, except for lately when I have been too busy and under too much stress to cook, I usually don't make them a habit just because I believe it's better to eat as much "real food" as possible as opposed to making bars and shakes a staple in my life.
Also, if someone makes protein bars and protein shakes TOO MUCH of their diet, they are missing essential vitamins/minerals/nutrients that are often NOT found in those items. Since we can eat so little, it is important to get as many nutrients in as possible with each meal. Protein bars are often mostly protein and fat (except for the aforementioned "glorified candy bar" which contains as much or more sugar than it does protein and fat). There is little room for other nutrients past that.
So to make a long story short, I do eat then when I'm really busy and too stressed to cook. But normally, I don't think it's a good idea to make a daily habit of them.
My favorite taste-wise is are the Atkins bars. Chocolate Chip or Peanut Fudge Granola or Crisp................ YUMMMMMMM..............
