any migraine sufferers-post op? what meds u use?
I'm 6 and a half months out and I'm finding more migraines than before.... I'm hoping I'm right in thinking that the ostrim beef and ostrich snacks is the culprit for the past two weeks, but if not.... what else can it be.... and plus, migraine medications are a pain.... some can't be crushed like AMERGE or IMITREX. the IMITREX shots hurt my stomach BIG time... no more of that, ugh. I'm still going through the list of migraine meds and haven't found the right one... anyone got their perfect drug yet or pin down what could be causing the migraines?

I don't get migraines, but my daughter is post-op RNY (6 years out) and gets horrible headaches. The only thing that helps her is Maxalt. Good luck. They have no idea what is causing the headaches. She also developed Type II diabetes. Go figure. They say it is supposed to cure it, and she never had it before. She has hypoglycemia also. It worries me that when I get that far out, I may have problems like that.

It sounds like you need to pay a visit to your neurologist. He/she should be in close contact with your bariatric surgeon, though, so that your treatment is discussed between both professionals. I'm not sure what they'll give you. As a band patient, I still take darvocet and phenergan. I just cut it up really small, and it's been ok. Also, make sure the cause of recent increase in headaches isn't simple dehydration. I sometimes get caught up in life and forget to drink enough, ending up with a headache.
I took Maxalt....--- it was nice that the pill melted in my mouth and the headache went away, but I felt like a truck ran over me and after sleeping 2 hours taking the Maxalt, the next 2 to 3 hours, I was not making any sense when talking to anyone, was "mumbling" so bad, and had put on my clothes backwards.... jeez. Not taking another chance....
I was not a chronic migraine sufferer before my DS, so I'm not sure if this will be helpful. I had a period in my 20s when I had migraines, but then they went away. I think it was stress-related. In my mid-30s Jenny Craig food gave me migraines because of its preservatives.
Then about 7-8 months after my DS, I had crippling migraines around the time of my periods. Blinding pain, intense sensitivity to light, had to go lie down and pass out to get relief. My doc put me on Imitrex and it helped. This lasted for 4 months. My PCP and surgeon both thought it was a result of my intense hormonal changes with all the weight loss (100-150 pounds weight lost at that point), in conjunction with period-related hormonal changes and that it should go away once my weight stabilized.
I have been 2 months migraine-free, so I am happy and hoping that my hormones stabilizing a bit was the ticket. I am coming up on goal soon and I hope my body figures it all out!
Best of luck to you. Migraines suck.
