Is there a difference between size 18 and 18W?

Hey all! I'm now at a loss of 125lbs in under 6 months. Getting ever closer to under 200lbs. Thank goodness. But as I lose I am going through clothes quickly. I still haven't gotten to the point where I can walk into any old store and find my size, but I am getting closer. My question stems from a recent trip to Famous Bar. I am wearing an 18 now, but I continue to buy in the women's section. I thought I'd give Misses a try. I found an 18 and tried it on; however, it didn't fit. But an 18 womens did. What gives? Anyone know? Just curious.

In my experience, yes, there was a difference between 18 and 18W (and 16 and 16W). That's why some manufacturers carry an "XL" size, between "L" (14-16) and "1X" (18W-20W). This'll be an academic question before too long, as I'm sure you'll be in the non-"X"-rated (or in this case, "W"-rated) sizes real soon.

The measurements of the leg size and waist to hip size (length) are usually about the same, but the 18W are usually cut much roomier in the seat and thighs. I can wear a size 16W in women's, but need a size 18 in Misses (depending on manufacturer); however, a Misses size 16 dress (as long as it isn't a pencil skirt) I can usually get away with while a Women's size 16 is big in the bodice. Go figure....

Congrats on your great loss! From all the research I have done, I have found that 18W is actually a size 20 misses, 20W is size 22 misses, etc. So you will probably be in size 18 misses very soon!
