 Without a doubt, try:

Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook

Honestly, she has a lot of recipes in that book that were amazingly delicious, and that I had never thought of for a crockpot.  She's written several of them -- choose the one that's most appropriate.

Fix and Forget It is the one that I use. There are several version of these books though. I have the the one that has recipes using 5 ingredients or less. I absolutely love this recipe book.

Congratulations, Dave...You look super.  I just got a crock pot for Christmas and I used it for the first time today with chicken.  I just ordered The Idiot's Guide to Slow Cooking from Amazon.com.  If it is as helpful as all of the other Idiot books, it should be very good!

Dave, if you visit Walmart, they have a big picture book in their book section (the copy I saw was on their post-Xmas bargain table - I would have grabbed it for ya if I had known) called "Crockpot Cooking" or some such ..  It had some of the most elaborate recipes for a crockpot I have ever seen in it ..

I think over by their corckpot section WM also has a c.d. of tons of crockpot recipes for sale, as well ..

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

HW/461 LW/251 GW/189 CW/274 (yep, a DS semi-failure - it happens :-( )

I cook in my crockpot(s) at least 3 times a week. I have a Better homes and Gardens crockpot book that is quite good, but it is older and I don't know if it is in print anymore. I also love the Quick Cooking cookbooks as each one has a section with crockpot recipes and they are easy and delicious. My other good source is cooks.com. Just search crockpot recipes there-you'll get tons of them.

Fix It and Forget It has been a staple of mine for years and I understand that a new book has just been released that is a combination of recipes from the previous four or five. I just got a paperback vegetarian slow cooker one from Borders and that looks pretty good. I think that this is it:

Many of your stove top sauces can be used for the slow cooker (e.g. chili, spaghetti, stroganoff). To some degree, it is a matter of trial and error. Some recipes become kind of mushy and nondescript but this is still my favorite way of cooking.

One thing I have been finding recently is that a little more prep work up front while time consuming can help the quality of the flavor. Roasting or cooking vegetables and/or meat before putting in really helps the finished product (e.g. Guinness Beef Stew from Cook's Country, vegetable Moussaka from the vegetarian book above). It takes more time but makes a difference in the finished product.

Enjoy your new toy.

I LOVE my crockpot, and I try to use it at least a couple times per week. I have a few really good crockpot cookbooks. I have the Williams Sonoma Slow Cooker cookbook--it has fantastic recipes. Everything I make from there turns out great. The recipes often require a little bit of prep work like sauteeing veggies and searing meat before they go into the crockpot, but the results are great. I also have the Taste of Home, The New Slow Cooker. Great book. The other book I have is Cooks Illustrated Slow and Easy. There is a chapter in it for the slow cooker, and the recipes are the best ever.
