Skin Under Stomach is Getting Raw

Speaking as a Nurse:
Yes, other posters are correct. You MUST go back to the surgeon or @ least your family doc, to make sure these fungal infections are documented in your medical file so that in the future, should you decide to have a tummy tuck, the proper documentation is there. Proper documentation is needed by the Ins. company to prove that these fungal infections are a continuing problem, & can be very harmful to your health, if allowed to continue.
The cause: fungi. Think athlete's foot. What does foot fungus love? Dark, moist places. Feet are where: closed in a shoe, sweating.
Skin to skin will have the same happen.
Now, that said: yes, dry, dry, dry. Nystatin powder in form of a prescription from a doc is best, & apply, As Directed. Once the raw skin has started to heal, you can switch to an OTC foot antifungal powder, such as Desenex. The best way to apply: go to the dollar store & get one of those powder puffs, if not buy a cheapie canister of powder that has one attached. Open the Desenex powder up, then put some powder on the puff, & lift your hanging "apron" (skin flap)  while patting the powder puff on the affected area. Do this after EVERY shower, on a continual basis, do NOT stop doing this, or the fungus will return, so will the red, raw areas which can turn into ulcerations. I've also heard of people successfully using Monistat, the OTC antifungal cream that women use for vaginal yeast infections. I also know several people that dab on Mylanta, but the skin cannot be broken/open. Mylanta, even a generic liquid antacid, leaves a dry layer on the skin that aids in keeping the area dry. This was used widely in the hospitals back in the 70s & 80s, on very large pts., before Nystatin powder was developed.
Yes, I currently do the powder routine, as I have a big belly that folds over itself. I have a script for Ketoconazole from my family doc, & I use it if an outbrea****urs. Awaiting surgery soon, & also the day when I will no longer have to perform this ritual.
Good luck & post what you have found what works for you.

Tell your doctor, surgeon, OBGYN anyone so they can document this.  I don't put nothing on it and when I do go to the doctor I scratch and scratch to make it red.  Right now mine is just sweaty however I want good documentation.  Good luck

Madelon,
You've gotten a lot of good information.  I really thought Tonni's was best so far.  I too have the pannis problem and have to keep the area super clean and dry.  If I don't the really red, fungus happens ... let's face it, it happens under the breasts too if skin is touching skin (bra or not).  I didn't get mine documented but have gotten the prescription antifungal cream which does help.  I found too that after showering and getting the area really dry, use the cream on a non-stick 4X4 sterile gauze pad and put it between the skin folds.  It will clear up in a few days.  Cotton underwear is always best for these times too!
Don't get discouraged!  You'll be glad you lost all that weight.  I just saw a patient 8 years post-op and she showed me pictures of herself before... I couldn't believe I was looking at the same person.  She then showed me HIP Bones!  We'll get there too!

Do exactly what Kathy S. said in her comment. This method will clear it up, I use it myself.

I have the same problem. Follow what the nurse below says. Dryness is critical. Once your skin is healed I found that a small sprayer with half vinegar and water sprayed along the crease and then blown dry (at cool setting) really keeps it under control. I'm guessing the vinegar changes the Ph of your skin. I've been doing this all summer and I have had no recurrence. I will do it everyday from now on. Good luck!

Thank you everyone.  I trully appreciate everything you have all posted.  I believe we have some Gold Bond and I will take pictures and get to a doctor to document it.

The road is long but the journey is worth it :)
