Skin Under Stomach is Getting Raw

I am 3 months out as of last week and have lost about 54 pounds.  I am working like a dog because this is my major crazy busy time of year so I have not been around much anywhere at all so forgive me please for posting this out of the blue.

I know there are lots of fancy words for it but my fat roll that hangs over my belly -- where it meets up with the rest of my body above -- oy . . . um . . . well my privates down there . . . It is getting slimy, I can feel bumps and it smells.  I am using Olay gentle face cleaning wipes . . . I have baby wipes and of course I am cleaning myself.

Is there anything else I can do . . . Would cornstartch powder do me any good?  I wear cotton underwear and have been mostly wearing knee hi's versus panty hose because I wear a lot of slacks.

I know this will only get worse as I loose more weight but any help anyone can offer is appreciated.

There are all kinds of things that can help. The main thing is to keep it clean with antibacterial soap and keep it dry. It is a type of fungas and thrives on moisture. I get this all the time.  Cornstarch is good.

To prevent skin breakdown from occurring you must keep it dry.  Pat it dry and apply powder.  You can also try placing a cotton hanky or cotton square of fabric between the skin folds to keep it dry.  The blow dryer is a great idea as long as you don't burn yourself.  Clean dry and powdered are the keys.  If it looks really red and raw and smelly you can buy anti-fungal powder such as myconozole over the counter.  Fungus grows in moist places.  Good luck.

WHEN I WENT TO MY LAST PREOP APPOINTMENT I WAS GIVEN
A PERSCRIPTION FOR NYSTATIN POWDER FOR JUST THE PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING
I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO DOCUMENT THESE "RASHES" SO I WILL HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF GETTING INSURANCE TO PAY FOR PS WHEN THAT TIME COMES. I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU SOME. BEST WISHES TONNI

Cornstarch will feed fungi. Do not use. You need a drying powder like Gold Bond.

HOWEVER, much MORE important is to go to the doctor and get this documented!! VERY IMPORTANT if you ever want to get reconstructive surgery covered by insurance! ------>Self did not do this, merely practiced fanatical scrupulous hygiene and already well known medical care because self had pressure sores and cellulitis and knew how to do this herself dammit bygolly snarl cuss......

Price tag of my stubbornness: About $6000, which is dirt cheap for a tummy tuck, but still....

DOCUMENT!!  Take pictures and date them, mention to the doctor that it is causing you distress.  Tummy tuck in your future.

But like all the posts say when you shower or bath make sure you dry dry dry the area really well. I suffer from this problem occasionally because of weight loss and c sections even though I haven't had surgery yet.  Feel around with your fingers to make sure you got all the wet spots; lifting up the loose skin.  Vasoline will work also but I know a lot of people choose not to use petroleum based products.

Before you do anything to help it heal, take pictures  I know it sounds weird but taking pictures of my excess skin being bloody raw was what got me PS approval in the end.

Once  you take photos, wash well, using anti bacterial soap, dry well and use Golds Bond power.  Also use a really good support garment to keep the panni from moving, like

When I got almost to goal I had to use a body suit from lipo and an additional panty girdle for exercising.

Good luck to you  And keep up the awesome job you are doing losing weight.

Take care,
Kathy

DRY DRY DRY! I have a small fan on my bathroom counter for that purpose - doesn't burn like a hair dryer might.

Also, something like monostat (the fugicide kind) might be a good idea. You can get it over the counter. Wash, dry well, slather on some of that and finish off with a dusting of gold bond!
