The nut would be a better choice simply because the surgeon most likely hasn't had any nutritional training since early med school.

But remember, some nuts still don't research as much as they could.  My last nut appointment?  I showed her my research and she was taking notes off the things I brought in to her.  Did that make her a bad nut?  No, it meant she didn't have the newest info available.  Period.

Hmm I'm perplexed! Thanks for all this information Andrea.

I just started on the bariatric advantage chewables and it has a lot of what we need but I noticed there was no potassium or sodium or anything listed, are those things we should be getting from food then??

Pretty much, yes.

Sodium is easy.  Potassium isn't as easy, but is manageable.

I for one greatly appreciate the time that you take to try to inform others about this subject. You are not forcing it down anyones throat just offering information. Let those take from it what they wish. We will see where they are in a few years. To those that question it..do your own research. But if you want to blindly take "a" (meaning maybe one) vitamin lets see where you are at in a few years. I am over 5 years out and fighting this EVERY SINGLE DAY! My doc's have been aggresive in my treatment and just when I thought I was out of the woods..SMACK..Im probably defecient AGAIN!! Even with a lot of vitamins. I am showing the symptoms which I have been wrongly chalking up to an ulcer. WRONG!!! Doc think Im running too low on my B1 AGAIN..even with shots. Yeah for me. SO--- Andrea, even though others might squack and argue I thank you for what you are trying to do. Oh and by the way I did read it all..but hopefully there is not a test cause I wont remember it. So I pulled out my Viactiv multivitamins.... and I got baffled.

I noticed that your RDA for the different vites were different from the %DV on the label of my multivitamins in nearly every single category.

Where does one find the definitive list of RDA?

I take two of these a day.

My Viactiv Multivitamins label says:

Vitamin A 2500 IU (50% DV)
Vitamin C 60 mg (100% DV) -- I supplement 500 mg 1x day & 250 1 x day
Vitamin D 400 IU (100% DV) -- I supplement 4000 IU 2x day
Vitamin E 33 IU (110% DV)
Thiamin 1.5 mg (100% DV) -- I supplement 7.5 mg 1x day
Riboflavin 1.7 mg (100% DV) -- I supplement 8.5 mg 1x day
Niacin 15 mg (75% DV) -- I supplement 50 mg 1x day
Vitamin B6 2 mg (100% DV) -- I supplement 10 mg 1x day
Folic Acid 400 mcg (100% DV) -- I supplement 400 mcg 1x day
Vitamin B12 6 mcg (100% DV) -- I supplement 30 mcg 1x day & 500 mcg 1x day
Biotin 30 mcg (10% DV) -- I supplement 1000 mcg 1x day & 300 mcg 1x day
Pantothenic Acid 10 mg (100% DV) -- I supplement 50 mg 1x day
Calcium (carbonate) 200 mg -- I supplement with approx 2000 mg elemental calcium.

These %DV aren't the same as your RDA.... so are they just using %DV to confuse consumers?

I got my list from wikipedia.. which I would trust as an outside source rather than what's on a bottle.

But hey, my info could be wrong, too.  I never claim to be perfect :-)

I was taking a liquid vitamin from Nature's Plus called Source of Life before I had surgery and decided to keep on taking it because I already liked the taste and it seemed better than any chewable out there.  I take one capful every morning (2 Tbl) and then supplment with extra calcium citrate, dry D3, sublingual B-12 and then vitalady's tender iron and chewable C mid-day away from my calcium supplements.  Here is the breakdown of the liquid vit in your format:

What do you think?

Andrea U.

Looks pretty average.  I've not found one vitamin that really does it all yet.. and I'm still looking.

So it looks ok, as long as you continue the other supplementation :-)
