Sexual Harrasment....

Hey everyone,

Okay, so I work in an office with 7 females and one male. It is a small office. My supervisor is the male. He has always made sexual remarks to me and I just laughed them off. I don't really know what to do because as all of you women know, us women in the office will talk about things to each other regarding our husbands. Well he never says things of that nature but will tell me and only me how he hires prostitues and he calls them his "payday friday friends". He has said things to me like "once you go black you never go back" and many other things of sexual nature including how good I look and so on. I am required to have a 2 hour supervision meeting with him every week in a closed office in which he tells me "come into my parlor said the spider to the fly". What really makes me mad is that my director knows that he has a sexual addiction yet puts him in the office with 7 women. I guess I am worried that if I say something, is the women including myself talking about our husbands considered sexual harassment to him because he over hears them sometimes. I just hate having meetings with him and get sick thinking about having to go into work. My director seems to really like him and thinks he is great so I don't know if anything would even get done about it. Another one of his comments is that for a staff development activity, he asked me if I would pole dance for entertainment. Please help...... Worried about my job.

This is a "hostile" working environment.
From this VERY day onward, you need to document each and every instance of sexual harrassment---whether it is physical or verbal. When he starts something, you must tell him to stop. AND why. Then document what he did and what you did.
The next time he does something.....go straight to her director. File a complaint.
BUT you have to do the documenting from this day forward.
There may be others in your office that want to compalin but are afraid----more of you against one, means that work has a problem, not you.
You may even want to consult an attorney. About one hour will cost you $100-150.

i would find out your rights ..asap ....by the dept of labor, and see what your rights would be.........and what should be done to stop this hostile work enviroment. this guy should be reported .......this is not right. and there is not reason you shouldn't tolerate this behavior in this day and age. you can ask questions without giving your name ...so speak to the dept of labor.

good luck and dont give up fighting for your rights!! this is uncalled for! you shouldn't take this crap

Thank you so much for your reply's. I know there is at least one person who by accident overheard him say something to me, becasue she came to me about it. The one person I had to talk to about this just quit our company so now I feel I am at this alone. I have put out resume's but I know it is him who needs to leave.

I would also start looking for another job. You are in a no win situation in my opinion. I would definitely do the documentation. I would not go into a closed office if I could help it. I would keep guiding the conversation back to business topics. I would also dicourage the husband talk.  He will use that if and when you do accuse him

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trust me - I am not laughing at you! I have been in Human Resources for over 12 years - have been an Employee Relations manager for over 5 of them and while doing so, specialized in harassment complaints. I say "hahaha" because all I hear is the cash register ringing!
You have suffered ENOUGH! You can email me directlly and we can chat - you have an excellent case - and if they continue with this abhorable behavior you are looking at a lovely lawsuit! Send me a message off line and we can discuss! Do NOT worry about your job - right now you need to worry about you! In addition to the harassment laws - there is a big one that is taking over the EEOC complaint lines - and even if no harassment exists (which clearly there is) - there are cases made strictly on retaliation. If you wish to discuss further - send me a message! ohhh this makes me mad!

Ohhhhhhh HR...  can I ask you a question????  What do you do when you've been out of work for 5 years due to a disability and everywhere you apply for work (including temp agencies) discriminate against you for lack of "CURRENT" work history.

I have been trying to find part time work and am getting absolutely nowhere.  I've actually had a temp agency tell me that they won't even send my resume out due to my not working since my injury.  I have actually been attending college and will obtain my Associate of Business Administration in June 2009, I have obtained 51 credits, have a current 3.90 GPA, and am a member of Phi Theta Kappa, International Honor Society, and the National Scholars Honor Society.  If all goes well, I will graduate Summ *** Laude.

What bothers me the most is that I have more than 18 years of office experience already and that doesn't even make a difference for a data entry position!!

Is there anything that I can do to make my resume look better to HR, or just make myself more marketable?  I really hate feeling like I'm being discriminated against due to a physical disability that really is not all that noticeable!!

Have you considered taking a small voice recorder into the room with you?  They sell them small enough that they could easily fit into a jacket or sweater pocket!!!  Let them try to get out of that one!!

Job be damned, that would be the day a man asks me to give him a stripper pole dance and think he's getting away with it.  I probably have the biggest and loudest mouth ever given to a woman and I would definitely light up that office.  FIRE ME, PLEASE, I DARE YOU!!!!  I WILL OWN THIS COMPANY!!!  I would probably smack the **** out of the guy asking me to pole dance too!
