Anyone else grieve a little when saying buh-bye to now-too-big clothes?

Katherine, wow, wow, and wow.

I, too, gave away a lot of beautiful DESIGNER duds, with their tags INTACT!!!

I read a study somewhere (that I can't find now) which said, fat people spend MORE MONEY on everything than thin people.  I think of all the clothes I bought at one time from catalogs, to save myself the humiliation of going into a store to try it on.  I think of the duplicate items I purchased, because I didn't want to have to go shopping AGAIN if the one (or two or three) I had wore out.  I think of the pairs and pairs of shoes, the multiples of scarves, the vast expense of hats (because it was too depressing to buy huge, ill-fitting clothing -- but hats always fit).

Ugh.

No!! No!! and No!!!! don't miss it, don't want it, gave it all away except a couple pieces I made some duds with that I will never use just because I could do it (lol)  .. no those big pants that were too tight for me that kept busting at the seams and the big sweatshirtsand tents that were about the only thing that could go around my two butts - the one in the front and the one in the back a bummet my daughter called it -- and the big size 4X church suits with the long skirts and the beadwork those were the first to go - did not even miss my big leather jackets they all had to go!!! clothes so big I had to either pin them or clothes pin them to the hangers otherwise they woun't stay up - eevn the largest hanger was too small ... NO DON"T MISS "EM AND NEVER WANT TO SEE ANYTHING ON ME IN THAT SIZE EVER AGAIN!!! and excuse the typos I fell asleep with my contacts, took 'em off - can't find my glasses and am touch typing as best I can with my nose stuck to the  screen - I am nearsighted (lol) and now I must get some sleep (lol)

I had a sweatshirt that was the softest material ever and it was a little big even then, but it was blue and had pockets in the front and zippered halfway down. It had a little logo of eeyore on it from Winnie the Pooh. It was the shirt that I put on whenever I was cold or wanted to feel comfy. Well it was a 3x and I am now a small or a medium so I gave it to my sister and every time I see her wear it part of me wants to ask for it back that is the only piece of clothing that I miss, but I really do miss it not the weight but the shirt. I think there are some things we are going to miss but the journey was well worth it.

For me, I had put such effort into having the best looking clothing a 5X size person could come up with.  So yes, it was hard for me to part with them.  They were expensive, and carefully chosen to help me look as good as I could.  I really wanted to pass them on to others who could use them...

No remorse here....I could not wait to get rid of them and now have another box full to go. I want no reminders...all those 'fat" photos are reminder enough.

Even though my surgery is still a few weeks away, I am already planning a "Big Girl" Garage Sale.  I am going to invite all of my plus-size girlfriends over for a par-tay, and sell my stuff for chump change.  Then I can get the satisfaction of watching my loved ones putting my old clothes to good use.  My friends could use cheaply-priced, good quality clothes.  I will have room for new clothes in smaller sizes.  It's a win-win for us all.

I guess what really bothered me was knowing how much money I gave for my big clothes to only just givre them away or get hardly nothing for them

Before my surgery I packed up my old winter clothes and put off the decision on "keep, toss, or donate" until winter. Just this week though, I bagged up all of my too-large stuff and donated it (except the largest pair of pants). It was very difficult to let go. That clothing served me well, some of it wasn't that old either, and like others, there's this fear that I will need it again. It was difficult, but I got rid of two bags worth for now... probably have five or six more bags when I break out my winter clothes. I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of my winter clothes end up being way too big for me.

The strangest thing I've found, though, was in wearing some of that too-large clothing... it's not the same... someone has replaced my comfortable fitting stylish clothing with  clown outfits. It's not as hard to get rid of the clothing when I try it on, because it's just not physically the same outfit it used to be.

I was very sad the day I walked into Catherine's and couldn't find anything to fit. I realized I wouldn't be seeing the women who worked there, and the credit card was useless to me.
On the other hand,. I could shop anywhere and wear more youthfull looking clothing.
Yeah, saying goodbye is always a bit sad.

You all made me feel great, and a little less alone and crazy about having a desire to cling to useful objects!!!

I just carted off SIX large bags of beautiful, top-quality clothing to Goodwill (including some scarves and a beautiful blue hat that I never wore) -- And I'm hoping some other person wll make good use of them, and that the funds will help train people for good jobs in this dreadful economy.

Thank you everybody *****sponded to this thread!
