Anyone else grieve a little when saying buh-bye to now-too-big clothes?

I am not saving any of my "big clothes".  I don't need them to remember where I have been.  I love buying my new clothes and more than that...seeing them get too big.  I know somewhere out there is someone with a weight issue like mine was that will be so happy to find clothes that will fit her.  I hope I send some positive vibes with them so she will know someone cares about her!

My husband built me a new bedroom..ironically it was completed 4 days before my surgery..so I bagged much of my winter wardrobe as some of it was too big or just fit last year...it was kind of sad, but exciting. I really have just started my journey so it will be interesting to see how I feel in 4-6 months.

Your responses -- some of them made me cry with recognition.  Thank you!  I'd love to hear more!

I am a huge fan of eBay -- thank goodness for that service, I have no idea how I would have clothed myself over the past months, otherwise.

It's just hard saying g'bye to a fEW of those pieces, but your'e all right -- someone else needs them more than I do!

I know what you mean by a part of you being sad to see some of your bigger clothes go.

I love clothes/shoes/bags/etc and I don't mind paying big bucks for them.  A lot of my big clothes were really high dollar and were absolutely adorable.  I got complimented on my wardrobe all the time.  In fact, when I'd go into the office, some people would outfit ask me, "If you ever get rid of that, I want it."

I've always had A LOT of clothes - NICE clothes - and yes, even as a big person that did not change.  In fact, I got complimented on my clothes/shoes/bags so much that I've grown SUPER-confident in my own taste in fashion (something that I never thought I'd say when I was a high school band geek)!

So was I sorry to see some of them go?  Holy crap yes!

I don't care if they are 2 sizes too large and falling off your feet when you walk: you don't say goodbye to Gucci slingbacks without dying a little inside.

(HOWEVER... that check I just got from the consignment store makes the blow a little easier.)

I honestly put it off as long as I possibly could.  I didn't want to buy new clothes I didn't want to give away old ones.  A. because What if I need these again and B. every time in my life I have bought a smaller size I'd go up 2.  So it was really really hard for me.  BUT 9 bags of clothes later I did it.  I set aside a day and made myself do it.  I got rid of the 30's down to the 22's I kept the 20's cause some of them although baggy looked ok.  I am now having to do it again.  But I think I'll wait till I am a 14. Then I'll get rid of the 20's.  I just went thru a tote of clothes I put aside before surgery that I wanted to get back into and some of them are just too big to wear I waited to long to go back through it.  Oh well.

ANYWAY I feel your pain but I also am starting to enjoy wearing size 16 clothes.  Every time I hold them up I think OH that's WAY too SMALL and when it goes on and zips up I am totally amazed.

So good luck.  Mourn them and say your good byes you'll never have to wear that size again.

Good Luck

I just went through  the exact same feeling.  I actually cried as I pulled all of the items out of my closet and what made it so bad is the fact that they were new and old clothes that I could not wear anymore.  I passed up my saved "small clothes"
I have given away a total of 6 large black garbage bags of clothes and just went in there today and will be giving away a 7th bag.  I literally had nothing to wear today to work.  I have on a pair of jeans that I will go home and wash and fold to give away too. They are held on by a belt. LOL
It is ok, because half of the stuff I wore as a size 24 was dated looking and just plain old ugly.  I am so excited to go and buy some new items on payday tomorrow.
Enjoy life

short answer: NO!!!

i really lived in prison clothes (sweats and tee shirts)--telling myself that one day I'd lose weight and get dressed again. never got dressed up unless it was a wedding or a funeral, and I had one outfit for both. it was all awful and I hated every minute of it (10 years)

Charming, like all the post before, I am going through the same thing.  I look at an article of clothing that is special to me and it's like tossing out the memory!  Well, duh!!!  I try telling myself that I don't need that article of clothing to keep the memory in my heart.  I donated a great deal of casual clothing to a local battered women's shelter (Lord knows they need everything they can get) and the remaining fancy, evening type clothes I am listing on e-bay.  If nothing else, I can feel good about helping out women in need AND perhaps make a little cash on e-bay and then do a little "retail therapy" at one of the local malls!

And by the way, am I the only idiot who has gone through her closet and found more articles of clothing than I care to count that still have the tags on them but now they are too big?!?  I would buy something, it would be too small, I would tell myself "Oh, you'll drop the weight and fit into it some day".  I would then stuff that piece of clothing to the back of the closet, you know, out of sight, out of mind.  Now I have dropped enough weight that those "new with tag" clothes are too big!  Great feeling but also a very wasteful feeling.
