Halibut vs Tilapia
Halibut is my favorite fish, and also high in omega 3's, which I need. Tilapia seems to be higher in protein, but doesn't have the same nice taste that halibut seems to have.
Can anyone give me suggestios on how to prepare tilapia to taste good?
Also, how the heck do you cook a halibut steak without butchering it? I made one today but wanted to cut the bones out and the skin off and I killed it. Thought it was dead when I bought it, but when I was done, it was in about 12 pieces. >:o( Should I have just left the bones in and eaten around them?
I need some ideas so I can add more fish to my diet and eat less beef! Thanks!

Good question. I'd like to know the answer to your question as well. I grew up eating trout and only trout. And I moved to Texas and had to eat catfish...YUCK! Just recently I tried tilapia for the first time and it was GOOD...Never had halibut. I won't eat it if I have to take off the skin and take out bones though...I have a weak stomach and can't handle that. Anyway, the tilapia that I had someone bought from Sam's and they just had to bake it. It already had all the seasonings and such, but I'd really like to expand my fish too...tuna is about it for now. :)
Well, I think I'd like to try a filet rather than a steak, but the meat department at my store only carries the steaks.
I really do love Halibut and Salmon. Those are my favorite. Not a huge Tuna fan, but I'll eat it if I have to. I know I have had catfish before, but don't recall whether or not I liked it. Might have to try it again sometime.

I havent had the surgery yet, but did just start incorporating tilapia into my diet. They sell it in the freezer section, and you can get it already seasoned, I think with lemon (no breading) from gortons. About $4... so that would be easy.
I actually did mine up in the frying pan, and just kept chopping it up into little bits with a tad of butter. It had the consistancy of finely chopped scrambled eggs. It was very good that way and very lite! I still think I like haddock better but dont know the difference with the values... but it tastes sweeter than tilapia.
If you google lindas low carb, she may have some fish recipies on there!! Its a really good site with TONS of recipies, I love it.
Best wishes!

I bought some tilapia in the frozen section too, but all I found was the breaded kind. Shared it with my daughter. I mostly just wanted to do a taste comparison with the halibut. I think I actually like cod better than tilapia. I won't write it off just yet, I'll just find better ways to cook it.
Thanks for the website, I'll check it out right now.
