My hubby has done this too, whatever I have left on my plate he eats. I am 9 weeks out and he has gained 7lbs. I was wondering if all SO are doing the same thing? Laurie

RARELY th is happens ... I can eat 1/4 of a hamburger, and the teenagers have scarfed down every last scrap of food on the table that doesn't move ... He occsionally will finish off my meal.  But I don't think he's gaining a pound a week in leftover tidbits from my plate.  There's just not that much on it!

Are you feeding him all the food that you are now not able to eat since WLS?   Just a thought ..  I can see how that can easily happen .

Well great minds have similar questions, I guess (see remark, above). I don't really think he's consuming 3,500 excess calories from my plate -- I'd be shocked if there's that much on it to begin wtih. Either there's a chemical imbalance, an emotional imbalance, or he's getting junk food to eat on the way home, and hiding the evidence. But he's been so slender all of his life, that I'm still stunned by the fact of it, by the phenomenon, as much as I'm anxious about the possible cause. I will say, I think he was happier in our marriage and life felt easier on him when I weighed 315 lbs!

lol @ "hiding the evidence"  ..  so he's being "gastrologically unfaithful" to you?

No kidding! Unfortunately, I can painfully relate to the fact that he stops for gas on the way home, and picks up all the crap that we NEVER have in this house -- the chips, the cookies, etc.  Then, he hides it so I have NO IDEA why he's gaining ALL THIS WEIGHT, and when asked, he shrugs and looks puzzled. But I distinctly remember eating half a pan of frosted brownies, realizing with horror that the kids would want to know where they had all gone, and baking an IDENTICAL pan of brownies -- eating half -- to cover up my initial misdeed! So I have a lot of empathy for the guy.

Must be scary to watch....after checking out all medical possibilities and perhaps having him log what he eats (perhaps there is a lot of snacking) maybe a few couples counseling sessions would help? I say this as you wrote that you think he may have been happier when you were heavier and maybe there are some adjustments that he/you could talk out with someone- I am not meaning to suggest there is something wrong, only that sometimes talking with someone else can help. Peace.

This is happening in my house too, but it is because of the food choices my husband is making...chicken fried steak, mashed potatos, huge burgers, huge meals period. This is for his noon meal while I am gone to work...he goes to the local dive with the guys.  He is still eating like he is 18, not pushing 40.  He has put on a good 25-30 lbs in the past 9 months. I am worried too.  I prepare healthy meals in the evening for the whole family.  I am wondering about depression in my husbands case.....he has not finished any of the projects he has started lately, he sleeps all the time, he is so focused on what he can do to make himself happy it really is starting to concern me. I did bring up the topic a few days ago and it ended in a big fight with him twisting my words around in ways I never meant them to sound....and then there was the cooment about how I could just go out and find someone better..uggg, now why would I do that? I barely have him housetrained?

and then there was the cooment about how I could just go out and find someone better I think that there's an important kernel of anxiety hidden in that comment ... I suspect this is part of my husband's anxiety, too.
