Do You Know Anyone Who Came TO the U.S. For Their WLS?

I was talking to one of the higher-ups at OH about this point recently ..  One would think that if they had the $ means for WLS (or ins. coverage) but there were not any qualified WLS surgeons available in their own country the natural thing would be to come to the U.S. (or another country) to have it performed.      However, this OHer and myself, admittedly, could not think of a single person that we know of who has in fact done that., other than our neighbors to the north, of course    Do any of you?

Not really.  If someone has the money for WLS then they are not in a tiny village in Africa, they are in a place where WLS surgeons exist.

Ponit well taken.   I noticed when I was in my surgeon's office in Brazil that the waiting room was PACKED with local patients ..  I thought that odd, figuring that only the average upper-class Brazilian had the resources for WLS .

I think the real issue here is that US Citizens cannot afford US prices, or they don't want to pay US prices for a less experienced surgeon.  It is us that are leaving the US for surgery, not the other way around. My perspective only.

I honestly doubt it Paul. Medical costs in this country are out of control. There are a lot of countries that offer it that are cheaper than the US for ANYTHING medical.

Hello, im Jenn and im from Chatham, Ontario.  I have traveled to Michigan to have my surgery done.  For me it was closer then to where i had to go in Ontario, and there can be up to a 4 yr, wait here, not for me!  I also found out that alot of the dr.s here are not Bariatic specialists, they are regular surgeons who do a multiple of surgery types.  To me that doesnt seem too secure, call me crazy.....but i want to make sure that the dr knows what they are doing as they are rearranging my insides, lol.  I had my surgery a week ago today at the Henry Ford Macomb hospital with Dr.Pesta, and i wouldnt change a thing.
