OT: Kids have it sooo easy these days....

So today I went to the library to do some research for papers I have for class. It took me only a few minutes to get back into research mode...but I was quickly finding articles and when I went to click on PRINT I noticed "cite this article" and the option of several ways MLA, APA, etc...so I click on it and no crap there in front of me was the perfect APA style citation with hanging indent and all...I could even check the box on all the articles I wanted and it would cite them all in order in a word document!!!! While I think is excellent for me now, I have to wonder why I hear of so many students getting in trouble for not citing sources, I thought it was because they weren't taking the time to learn the style...but now I realize they don't even have to learn things from the manual like I did, the computer does it for them...which then again is probably the problem.

Don't bother trying to figure out all that BS ... Just find a good computer, type in the information, and it does the work for you. Annette

Oh how I love the fact that the computer does the work citing for me ... It saved my ass more than once while I was finishing my Bachelor's Degree 2 years ago. Annette

I had to laugh at myself when reading your post.  Cause I had no idea what you were talking about until I saw the reference to citing references!  Been out of college for a very long time.  Everything I did was typed on a typewriter - argghhh.  When I got my first computer, I almost knocked the monitor off the desk cause I was slapping it for the carriage return.  LOL  But you are right, kids do have it much easier these days. Microsoft Office 2007 - Word has this ability too... I love that feature.  Input all the requested information and it cites in APA, MLA, among others.....

Well worth the 90bucks it cost to get the program (student rate).... Download the trial free at microsoft.com

OMG.... ALL the times I had to CITE and type it the old fashioned way on an electric typewriter.  I had the DAMN APA style manual as a reference and still ended up with SOME professor wanting it MLA.

CRAP---kids---too easy.

Bill Gates and Microsoft... you SUCK and make it too easy.

UG was all MLA GR was all APA...that was quite a transition. This is a second Bachelor but TG it's APA also...just dug up my most recent APA manual...just in case...the other one I had was 1997 and no mention of online references.
