Exactly it's all about the money. I would like to see a follow up show on these patient's to see if they have maintained their weight loss or if they have gained it back. I still haven't seen one of them leave at a healthy weight. they are still super morbidly obese when they leave.

I understand that not everyone is for wls.  Believe me, though, that administrator is not doing his patients any service by letting them gain 200 lbs while under his care and allowing them to gorge on all of those foods.  Of course, I think their 1200 calorie diet plan is ludicrous for anyone, much less a severely MO person.   For the administrator to go on and on about the dangers of wls while his patients remain severely obese and bed-ridden is pathetic.  Of course, most of them are too obese to qualify for surgery anyway.  If you ever watched the "Half Ton Man" show, the bariatric surgeon wouldn't allow that man to eat anything other than what the hospital required (even checked his wife's bags, etc to make sure no one was smuggling in food).  After he lost enough weight, he had GB. Can you say "scam artist?"  That is exactly what this director is.  I refuse to watch that show.  I find the way he treats patients to be disgusting.  Now, on the other hand I loved Big Medicine...why is that not on, & this disgusting show is still on there?

Brookhaven show makes SMO people look like fat, disgusting, lazy slobs (I'm not saying that these people are those things, but it looks that way on tv).  It reinforces what people think about obesity:  That it's all about willpower and that we deserve to be fat.   Annette

that's exactly what they do!!!!!!! they make the people look like they are animals that can't control themselves, they need to replace this show with big medicine.

Either that, or show some of the successes at Brookhaven.  I'm thinking there has to be a few ... Of course, the chances of someone who is that obese losing weight and keeping it off is just about zero. I loved the show Big Medicine too! Hugs, Annette

But didn't you know, going through months of pre-op diets and paperwork, then having your guts rerouted, that's SO easy! I mean, really.
Griffin - guts in a rut!

I have seen the show too, and I would guess that is why they have residents that have been there for YEARS without success. One man was still eating himself to death INSIDE the clinic! What are they there for?? Very strange.

I dont think weight loss surgery is for everyone either and I am trying to figure out at this point if its for me, but I just blasted my weight loss support group for the same type of comments. Anyone who gets the information and even studies up on WLS knows that it is work, work, work from the start to the day you die. You will never just be able to mindlessly eat something and you can never skip your vitamins, and you may have a few follow up surgeries.  Whew, end rant, LOL, sorry.

If their clinic was so great, how come their patients rarely seem to sustain lasting weight loss?  The administrator isn't a doctor.  The clinic's income is supported by people that can call and order pizzas!  Call this the easy way out if you want, but in my book it was the SMART way.  I wouldn't give for my new body!
