I haven't take it post op so defintely check with your surgeon. I can tell you this. Pred is a corticosteroid. It causes PU/PD = polyuria and polydipsia. Basically it makes you thirsty so you drink alot of water which then causes you to urinate more. It also causes weight gain if you stay on it for long periods of time. Normally Pred is started off on a relatively high dosage and as the days go on you begin to wean off of it. Average amount of time on Pred is 2 weeks. Pred is designed to reduce swelling so if your pain is from any type of swelling I can see how Pred would help. Try to get off it as soon as possible.
Good luck and I hope the pain goes away quickly for you!!!!!!!
My friend was just prescribed this and after taking it for about 3 days she blew up like a balloon. She stopped over yesterday on her way to go back and see her doctor and I could not believe how swollen she was her ankles were like purple. She has never had WLS but I just thought I would share. Good Luck!

By all means get your WL surgeon's opinion. Short-term use of corticosteroids like prednisone is generally quite safe, though it can cause some degree of salt and water retention and water-weight-gain which is temporary and will remit once you stop the drug.
Chronic, long-term use of corticosteroids (i.e., months or years) can have profound metabolic changes, including osteoporosis and fat redisposition (moon face, neck "hump", central obesity with skinny arms and legs, and overall weight gain), but these are not an issue with short-term use. But for some chronic illnesses nothing else will do, and the issue is to manage the beneficial effects and the side effects that result from chronic use.
These drugs can sometimes contribute to developing stomach ulcers; PPIs like Prilosec can help ameliorate this.
