Help psch eval says im crazy
WLS is not magic . It is a tool just like therapy. I know more people than I can count on both hands that went to their goal weight after WLS, but then gained it all back plus some. Use every tool you can and follow all the rules, still no guarantees but that gives you your best chance for success. Getting another therapist just because you don't like his/her conclusions is the wrong way to better health.
Good Luck, Bob
I highly recommend seeing the therapist. I was already in therapy working on my "issues" when I decided to start my WLS journey. The coping tools I learned in therapy have been a godsend since I've had WLS. Seriously, most of us did not get to this stage because we simply ate too much - there are often underlying problems that need to be dealt with.
I personally loved therapy - I saw it as a hour that I got to discuss whatever I wanted, with an intellegent person who truely listened to what I had to say, didn't judge me , asked questions about what I was talking about to find out more, and most importantly, didn't tell me what they thought I wanted to hear, but what I needed to hear.
I think too many people poo poo the therapy, but like my surgeon, my NUT, and my PCP, I found my therapist to be an important part of my WLS team.
Good luck!!
First, you are NOT crazy... and I bet the doc doesn't think so either. Therapy is always good. We can all use someone to talk to. Binge is the other end of Purge... he might have figured you just didn't want to come clean about that part. If you just eat till your really really full... I don't think that's binging. That's just eating too much. Still, you should figure out why you feel the need to eat so much at one sitting. Could be simple...maybe you come from a large family, and if you don't eat it NOW it will be gone. (that was my problem..still is). Advice? Comply with what they are asking of you. The therapist will get to the heart of the matter where your doc doesn't feel as qualified. Be well, fellow MO. You'll get through it.

Several years back I worked with a psychiatrist and he said many MO people have what he called "Non-purging Bulemia" The minute I heard the term, I knew it fit me to a tee. I could make food disappear regardless of quantity, followed up by feeling very guilty and sad, consider making myself throw up, and then deciding throwing up was "sick"! I worked with the therapist on this and have a much better understand of how I relate to food. The is one reason I went with rny. I need that restriction. You can't gorge in such a small space!
