Happy 50th B-Day to Me - June Bug Edition
Hello All,
Yes, today is my birthday. Yesterday there was a surprise birthday party for me here at the house. How could it be a surprise you ask? Well, my fiances twins Jamie and Jeff are visiting from L.A.. Jamie was elected alumni of the year. He is the Chief Technical Officer for the National Football League and nfl.com is his creation. Thursday he gave a speech at the high school and received a nice trophy.
So, Friday when I was told there was going to be a party here at the house I assumed it was for Jamie and Jeff. After all they both went to high school here, have lots of friends, relatives, etc here in town so the get together was for them. I bought into it hook, line and sinker! I even had to drive out of town to pick up my son because he wanted to see Jamie and Jeff. After I picked my son up he wanted me to take him to the mall so he could pick up a book he had ordered. So I took him to the book store and waited for him in the parking lot, telling him to hurry up so I could get back home to help get things setup for the party. He took his sweet time in the store, so after 15 minutes I called him on his cell and told him to hurry up. Ten minutes later he comes trudging out and we leave for home.
When I pull into the drive there are these big 50th Birthday signs on the garage and I knew I was had. The whole thing about the party being for Jamie and Jeff was a ruse, along with my son having a book at the book store that he needed to pick up. LOL. The whole book store gig was so they could get me out of the house for awhile to get the black balloons, signs, etc put up.
Sneaky, very sneaky. Needless to say I was surprised. All my good friends, the band, and family were here and we all had a great time.
So where do the June Bugs fit in, you ask?
Towards the end of the night there were about 12 of us setting in a circle in the garage, visiting, telling funny stories and having a few drinks (no drinks for me, my surgery is Monday) and the June Bugs started buzzing coming in the garage. Someone caught a June Bug and next thing we no there is $20 on the floor in the middle of the circle, challenging someone to eat a June Bug. The pot went up to $40, and Doug the bass player in the band ate the bug. We were all grossed out, but it was damn funny!
A bit later another June Bug flew in and was caught and people started throwing money in the circle, this time getting up to $60.95. My fiance's son-in-law ate that one. His wife Amy (my OBH friend 1vamp) couldn't believe it!
Then they caught another June Bug. Just then Jamie's wife Carrie showed up and next thing we know the pot is up to $120. Carrie took a big swig of rum, then chomped that bug down, and chased it we a beer, gagging numerous times in the process. I could not believe it! She's such a sweetheart and a great mother. I never would have guessed she would ever eat a June Bug!
When my fiance arrived back after taking my son home, the pot goes up to $120 again and SHE eats a June Bug, but has trouble swallowing it. We were all laughing, practically peeing our pants it was so funny.
So, this was a night I will never forget. It was a great party and we will all be talking about this for years to come.
Are June Bugs something I be able to eat after my surgery on Monday? Just kidding!
Hey, have a great weekend, and live and enjoy what life has to offer!

Hey DrummerDude,
Happy Birthday! What a great story. Thanks for the laughs. Sounds like you have a great family and hopefully, a very supportive family. Yes, you will be able to eat the June bugs but you'll likely have to puree them first. Maybe they're loaded with protein.
Wait for the pot to go to $150, because you'll need the money for all of the protein powders, bullets, etc.
Enjoy your special day and good luck with your surgery on Monday.
