OT - stopped up drain w/ clumpable cat litter
I would suggest getting a plumber's snake. I've bought a small one that works really well for simple clogs. If the small one doesn't work, you can rent the power ones from any local rental place. It's worth a shot before calling the plumber. I doubt drano will work since it is a stong base that is intended to break down organic matter which is not your problem.
I second the plumber's snake advice. Drano is only for grease, food, hair. Clumping cat litter has a clay base and Drano wont do a bit of good.
BE very careful using the snake or other tool now that you have dumped Drano down there.. the Drano can get on your skin/eyes and do great damage. Glove up and wear some goggles or face protection.
If you DO have to call a plumber... tell him what you've done so he is protected too.
Good luck!!!
Throwing any cat litter down a plumbing drain is asking for trouble. I've bred Ragdoll cats for 30 years and talked to thousands of people on various cat topics. Due to the heavy weight of most "used" cat litter, it does not flush well or flow down drain pipes very well. Clumping litter may even be worse. The idea of the clumping litter is that when urine hits it, the moisture coagulates into a ball, for easy retrieval with a litter scoop. Due to this factor, you may have a difficult time dislodging the plug. Use a thin snake and flush lots of water once you see it start to drain. Keep pushing and pulling the snake to help disclodge as much as possible so that the running water will flu**** away. Trash cans are for litter, not your plumbing drains. DAVE of Ragnarok Cattery
