How did you meet your mate?

I just rejoined an online dating website. I haven't had a BF for over 10 years. And now I feel like I can't date because I don't know how to....I never had many BFs in high school or college because of my weight. Well in HS I had some boys who liked me...behind closed doors but would never acknowledge me in school. I had 1-2 BF's in college....but again that was 10 years ago. I feel socially immature at this. And out of the past 6 guys I've liked .....4 of them I found out are gay....even my BF from 5th grade...I started that pattern early.  I'm self confident. But I have seen so many bad relationships in my family that I tell myself I'd rather be single than to "put up" with someone. But single is lonely and I do have friends who have good marriages so I know it's possible....but I honestly feel like I don't know how to go about this. I just re-joined this website, and it hurts when guys don't even communicate with me before deciding they aren't interested. I have my avatar pic and black dress pic as my photos...super hot...I know...what's the deal??? Out of like 15 possible people...about 10 have said no without even talking to me. WTH??? So tell me....how did you meet your mate? Tips on going about getting into the swing of things....

I met my husband while I was working third shift ata gas station. He was one of my most annoying customers for the longest time. We got to know each other after I fussed at him over the mess he was making at the coffee area. We went on our first date three weeks later and have been together for nine years (married for five). Like you I never dated much I was always the funny fat girl-everybodys friend but not date material. It will happen , unfortunately there are lots of frogs and not many princes. Hold on to your standards and your sense of houmor and you will fine. Blessings, Jennifer

Hey Sarah, one thing about online dating is that you can have photos, even web cams (keeping it clean lol) that truly show the individual... A stranger is a stranger no matter where you meet them..

I met my hubby online, and it truly was a "kaWinkyDink" I had a chat room opened on AOL, was literally fixin to close it when he popped in, and said hi.. We both were bored that day and just wanted to chat with someone.  IF we both had been "looking" we would have totally bypassed each other.  Him being in Calif and only dating "local" bay area gals, me being in Arkansas, not wanting to go to Calif, lol.. We connected, and started talking that day for 5 hours on the phone and haven't hushed up since... It truly was a miracle... I am so blessed and thankful every day for him..  He had done the "match.com, eharmony etc, me too, but nothing ever happened... I dated many folks from online... If your smart and wise, and ALWAYS believe in your gut, you should be ok... It's fun and challenging as well... Good luck to ya.. Huggs Debbiie

I met him through a guy I was casually dating and we were friends.  We hung out and did things and eventually the more than just friends things blossoms.  We dated and lived together for 3 years and we are happily married for 11years now.  I weighed 287 on my wedding day by the way and 132 the day I met him.  He has been here for the surgery and only supportive of the health benefits both psyiologically and psyologically.  He is the best..God has blessed us.  He was in the Navy when we were married and has since retired after 20 years of Submarine service.  He know works in the Space industry and we love having him home.  It is a continuing romance with lots of public displays of affection.  Advice don't get too serious to fast and go out in groups meet his friends.  Best wishes.

Highschool!  I was a whopping 13 when I met him and I just KNEW that he was the one that I wanted.  It's almost 18 years later and five boys later and we are still going strong! He's the only guy that I've ever dated so I think I'd also feel a bit out of the loop if I'd ever have to date again.  Plus I am SO no nonsence that I don't know if I would really have the patience that's needed to date...LOL!!

During Operation Desert Storm, a group of friends from church and I sent cards to "any service member" and Steve's best friend got mine, and gave it to Steve because I was from Michigan and so was Steve. (He's from the Detroit area, I grew up in Muskegon - across the state.) He was in the navy at the time. Anyway, he wrote to me, and asked me to write back, so I did. Pretty soon we were sending letters every day. (Like, real, handwritten letters!) This went on for several months, and then when he got back to his homeport (Norfolk, VA) he started calling me everyday. Then, he asked me how I'd feel about him coming to see me when he came to Michigan on leave. He came for a weekend. Then, about 6 weeks later I went to VA to visit him for a week. It was intense! Then he was sent to another ship, and left again for a deployment. We continued to write during that deployment, and he called when he could... but we didn't make promises. He told me he wanted me to continue dating (I was only 20, after all) and I did, but not much. He came to see me for another 5 days after his deployment, and on the day he was supposed to leave, he decided to have his leave extended a few more days.  Then, the day he left  FOR REAL, he proposed to me.  It was completely spontaneous and unplanned, but it just felt right. We got married 3 months later, 1 year and 2 days after we met.  That was 15 1/2 years ago.
