John Breen is a computer programmer that designed a site called www.FreeRice.com to help his son get ready to take the SAT and in addition he also came up with the following: He put 10,200 words definition challenges online and for each correct answer there is 20 grains of rice that will go the the UN World Food Program. It is funded by corporate advertising and so far has generated 20 BILLION grains of rice, enough to feed nearly a million people for a day! As for Breen he still can't get his son to study for the SAT but he is sure on one thing: "Ending hunger is doable. It's just a question of getting the word out." This was in the March 18th, 2008 People magazine under People Heroes among us, page 124. What an awsome idea - it's a win win situaion. The kids learn more words and in addition, they are helping someone survive. PLEASE pass this along to anyone who will listen to you... This is a great site.  My son's teacher showed it to her class.  Great way to do something beneficial to many.

That is really cool!  I've told my son about it and am letting his teacher's know.  What a great idea.
