DS math

I based my decison to have RNY based on 3 people that have had DS. I was fortunate enough to help a friend out by going to be with her postop just a few days after her DS. Following her DS, she had horrific diarreah and vomiting. I could only stay a week, but she and I also went to NY to attend a play.  By then she was 6 months postop and STILL having horrific diarrea and the gas she emitted was unbearable even for me and I am a EMT, trust me I've smelled some things that would make your hair turn gray.  To this day, at 3 years postop for her, she continues to have diarrea and horrific gas.  She cannot go out for long periods of time as she lets loose of her bowels and the gas is horrific. She had less weight than I did to loose, and I have surpassed her weight loss.  I have had no major complications and my labs are perfect. However I regret having to have WLS at all...but thats another story. The other two DS folks I know, they have had the explosive diarrea as well but one doesn't have it as much as the other two.  Both these ladies had less weight to loose than I did and I again have surpassed them both. One of them can not eat and drink at the same time..she vomits.  The other one can't leave her house for horrific diarreah and gas.  The 3.rd one has stomach pains so bad after she eats, it doubles her over and she just consumes protein shakes. I wanted DS to begin with because of the amount of weight I had to loose but in the end I chose RNY because of these 3 ladies. I have better labs, take better care of myself, and lost much more weight than all three of these DS ladies. I would have preferred NOT to have ANY surgery.  I shouldn't have allowed myself to get this way at all. It's not about which surgery we have it's about prevention before you gain. Why did we get this way?

Have your friends followed up with their surgeon?  Do they attend their surgeon's support group meetings?  Do they read or post on any online support groups?  Most of what they are experiencing sounds like a common bacterial overgrowth condition (which can happen to both DSers and RNYers), and can almost certainly be ameliorated by simple changes in diet (type of food and timing of eating), as well as a round of antibiotics and taking probiotics to repopulate their intestines with good bacteria.  It sounds to me like they are suffering needlessly.  Please send them to the DS Forum or www.duodenalswitch.com where they can get some help.

You know Diana....I don't usually get involved in these things.  But I have an idea.  Since you KNOW how much dissention these posts cause on the main board, why not post your information on the DS board, then come to the main board and post a notice a to all those new folks doing research that the post is there and even put a link to it so those truly interested can follow the link and read.  I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't post here, of course you can, and of course you should.  I'm just saying that it causes so much dissention, that maybe this would be an option. That way, you wouldn't incite people like Jade so that it makes the board miserable for the rest of us.  I won't block you or anyone else. I read your posts, take in the information and move on.  Obviously, some can't do that. I get a lot of good information and support from DSer's on the main board.  I treasure some of the friendships and good information.  Please don't take this the wrong way, I just want whirrled peas! There were 2 episodes already--and you are SO LUCKY--they are repeating both of them TONIGHT from 8-10pm--they were both great! Then it's on every Thursday night at 9pm... they're competing to win $ for charity--Gene Simmons, Carol Alt, OMAROSA, Stephen Baldwin, Nadia Comaneci, Trace Adkins, Tiffany Fallon, Jennie Finch, Nely Galan, Marilu Henner, Lennox Lewis, Piers Morgan, Tito Ortiz, etc... The show is better than I thought it would be. I am not happy with Donald Trumps nasty attitude toward fat people though.

Ok...I'm weird.  I'm the only person in America who doesn'****ch American Idol....I did come across one of those shows the other night....something like...So You Think You Can Dance.....yikes.  I did watch it.  Heck, I could do as well as some of those.....and better than a few.  It was hilarious.  I was embarassed for some of them though. Oh well....maybe Jade likes American Idol....I wouldn't know though.  I'M BLOCKED.  (not a bad thing) Hugs Charlie
