WOW... It sounds like I really missed out on something good by having the RNY instead of the DS!  You get to eat 3000 calories a day, don't exercise, and still lose weight? And the only side effect is killer gas? Man... I really missed the boat!!!  I'm slaving away on the elliptical and eating 4 ounce meals over here!  I am PISSED that my insurance didn't cover DS so I didn't even research it. Oh well... I'm losing weight, and exercising kinda feels good once you get the hang of it.  :) However, I will say this... if I gain it back (WHICH I HOPE I NEVER EVER DO!!!!)  I'm totally considering a revision to the DS.  :) Ok... I"m done.

Food is one of life's greatest pleasures.  You, me and ALL OF US obviously LIKE it.  Fat has a lot of calories.  Fat gives flavor to food.  If I could've stopped eating fat, I wouldn't have needed WLS.  I do NOT PREFER low fat foods.  I don't want to be FORCED to eat that which I will not thoroughly enjoy.  If you want to PUNISH yourself by FORCING a certain diet upon yourself, then be my guest.  Me, I'll go for FAT being free calories, thanks.

I find this post interesting,,, why would you WANT to continue eating "yummy fat"??  Isn't that what made you become obese in the first place?  I must admit, I am a little scared of the foamies, and dumping, however, I WANT to change my eating patterns.  I would think that one would want to change the way you look at food, not just mask it with some surgical procedure.  I am sorry but eating 3000 calories a day and not exercising, isn't addressing any of the issues as to why someone would become obese in the first place.  I like the fact that the RNY will FORCE me to change my eating habits, and I don't look at dumping as a punishment, rather a reaction from a unhealthy behavior.  I hope you understand what I mean, and I respect your choice to have the ds and to tell others about it, just maybe you should wait for someone to ask, rather than just preach your choice to everyone.  And to Jade, I have always leanded your way on many issues, but it is getting a little extreme at this point.  You need to find something better to do with your time than stir the pot, and keep bringing up crap that the rest of us would just like to go away.  We all want to lose weight, and everyone has the right to do so, in their own way!
. . . I changed my eating patterns. I eat smaller servings, but more often.  And I KNOW I eat more fat than before my DS. So let's look at what you said: "I would think that one would want to change the way you look at food" Why?  I have liked prime rib for 50 years or so.  Why would I want to learn to like tilapia better IF I CAN EAT PRIME RIB AND IT CAUSES ME NO HARM.  Now, if prime rib in some way hurt me...like it did before I had my procedure, then it would makes sense to try to brainwash myself into liking tilapia better.  But I HAD the DS and I don't brainwash easily and so there is no point in my learning to like the lousy tilapia. "I am sorry but eating 3000 calories a day and not exercising, isn't addressing any of the issues as to why someone would become obese in the first place." (I just signed up at the gym again because I'm getting flabby.  I should probably care about the cardio, but I care more that I'm flabby.  Go figure.)  But as far as addressing issues...let them address themselves.  Or each other.  I just want to eat normal food, in small quantities, frequently...and stop buying into the "fat people do bad stuff" nonsense. We went to our favorite cheap place tonight.  Again...from the "light eaters" menu...I ordered the beef barley soup, sour dough bread with butter (I had only a little), the tri-tip and a baked potato with sour bream butter and chives.  I also had coffee (with cream and sugar.)  I gave hubby half the potato (didn't quite finish "the small half") and ate a little of his spinach.  I took home half of the beef.  I had one cup of black coffee and one cup with cream and sugar.  I was more than satisfied.  I was full, unlike how I used to feel "plugged up" with the band.  I took the sour cream boysenberry pie home and ate it later.  (The beef will feed me tomorrow.  Maybe breakfast.) Here's something to think about...if "learning to eat differently," and "having a new relationship with food" were things that most of us could do, don't you think we might have done them?   Before we got MO?  I mean, with WW, and all the other programs out there, we've had our chances.   Why should someone who has NEVER met with any long term success in establishing that new relationship choose a surgery that requires the adoption of that new attitude in order to have long term success with the surgery?  Isn't that just another way of saying, "all you need is a good diet and a little exercise?"  Because we all know how well that has worked for most of us. From my inbox just now:

Had it not been for you and people like Diana I would have never known about the DS. Don't ya'll dare shut up or be pushed away by people like Jade. When I see reactions like hers and that plumpkitty gal I secretly (and with a little guilt) think "Ahhhh so they got suckered in by an RNY mill and are regretting it, otherwise why do they protest so much".

Don't stop.
