Is your meal ok? ... are you finished with that?

Wow, not sure why you're so steamed over that! That shows good customer service in my opinion! They wanted to make sure that you were okay and that the food was good. The first few times that I went out I could hardly eat anything and I thought it was very considerate of the wait staff to check to make sure that the reason I wasn'****ing was because the food was terrible. Maybe next time you could ask them to box up half of it before even bringing it to the table, that way there will be less on your plate and your letfovers are all ready to go home with you.  I don't see any reason to explain your situation to them if you don't want to, but you are the one eating out of the norm right now, so be patient with them and take control by asking them to box it up or ordering a smaller plate or asking them to give you more time. Good luck next time, I know eating out can  be hard for a while.

I really don't feel obligated to tell the service staff anything other than to assure them that they are not at fault. .  I did say that there was nothing wrong with the meal, I just wasn't that hungry but I personally would never tell them I had WLS.  To each his own.  I take most of the meals home and finish them over the next few days.  This may not work for you, just the way I handle it.

This is too funny, if I had a dollar for every time I was asked that I would be rich.  If possible order from the senior menu, the portions are smaller.  I also at the time when I order ask for a take home box.  That tells them I am not planning on eating all my food and they don't ask me 100 times if every thing is ok. Good luck to you and get ready for the journey of your life!!! Take care, Kathy

I've only had this kind of thing happen one time. I actually took one bite of the chicken, knew right away it wasn't setting well with my pouch & didn't touch another bite. Finally I went to the restroom & had my 1st bout of the foamies. While I was in there, the waitress asked my hubby if my food was alright. He told her it was fine, but that I had recently had surgery and wasn't real hungry. He didn't specify which surgery, and she readily accepted his explanation.  I think if the waitress kept coming over, it would be annoying. Of course often times it feels like you get wait staff that either never checks on you, or checks on you too much! :) vicki

She was just doing her job. I just tell them it's fine and I'm a very light eater....or I say I had gastric bypass. I expect a good waitperson to want to make sure I am satisfied with my meal.

Having been a waitress for 11 yrs I can say that whether your customer has had wls or just wants to linger in conversation there is no reason to bug them. I always politely asked if the meal was alright when it would be set on the edge of the table to be sure we hadn't served them something lousy, beyond that I didn't pry or bug. I think sadly so many restaurants go through servers so quickly they do not get the time to figure little things like this out and most of them stink at people skills. Good Luck in the future. Sarah

I've had similar experiences. I normally just say politely the first time that I'm not a big eater and I'm very slow. Normally its my DBF that gets irritated and tells them to take a hike until he calls them back to ask for to-go packaging and to remove our plates. I never tell the wait staff that I've had WLS. None of their business in my opinion.  One time I called the restaurant ahead of time to discuss menu options due to my WLS because it was a special dinner and the fixed menu is $175 per person. I wanted to see if I could get a reduced portion at a reduced price. They said I could sit at the bar and order small plates. LOL. Whatever. I just went to dinner, enjoyed what I could, and paid full price.

I haven't ventured to go out to eat yet. But I do plan on using sandy's suggestion. When I order I plan on telling them to bring a "to-go box" when they bring out my meal. Enough said.

I think early after surgery there's a lot of things that keep our nerves on edge. Shortly after surgery I went to a restraunt and asked for a small salad. She brought out this HUGE salad and I went off, yelling at this poor waitress…..I said to her, I ORDERED A SMALL SALAD, I CAN'T EAT ALL OF THAT….I said more not so nice things….Like this poor girl knew I had RNY. I did appologize….that was terrible of me to do….but the fact is this girl didn't know I had WLS, she had no clue and I attact her because my salad was to big….LOL

I know you said this waitress was becoming annoying, but you have to realize we don't have WLS or RNY or LAP band stamped on our forheads so most people don't know unless we tell them. I would have told her the first time. No, nothings the matter, I had WLS and have to eat slow and I don't eat very much.

Have a great night!

Hugs,

Lisa

*laugh* I went to outback steak house and ordered a fish dish with veggies.  I ate about 1/4th of the fish and some of the veggies.  I told them that really the fish was fine I'm just full. The waitress brought out the manager.  I told him the same thing (a bit more embarrassed) He told me 'I can have them make you something else.  They work for me they have to do what I say' *laugh* he was pretty funny.  I told them really I wouldn't be able to eat anything else, I'm full. He took it off my bill, he insisted! *laugh* I probably should have told him about my surgery but I don't tell anyone on principle.
