With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76% excess weight loss going out 10 years) of all of the bariatric surgeries.  That's why I had a DS!

Hey Ruth, My sister Floridian! I want to go to Puerto Rico! Every time I've tried to go there, something has happened. Sorry you missed time with your folks and the flight. Sorry the guy doesn't know a good thing right beside him...but guys are jerks.  Dianne from FL

You are better off safe at home on this of all nights. You are at the beginning of a journey. I wish I were 18 again and hadn't spent the past 30 years miserable about my weight. You have taken a positive step to improve your life. Give it time. You are a lovely girl. Keep the faith and things will get better.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...It's about learning to dance in the rain.

Aw, Sweetheart, you're 18 and have many great years ahead of you!  My 18 yr old New Year was spent with my 4 month old daughter.  But I knew that I wouldn't always be alone (without adult company) on New Years, and so should you. You're going through a lot right now, but please believe me, it gets so much better, really! My first New Year's party was when I was 21, had a great date, the party was a bore! You can be here for New Years, I'll be hanging around, we can all just talk and share stuff! Bless you, Holly Berry

Hey KB....   don't wish your life away,  life is already  way to short as it is,  you are on your way to a beautiful life, just be patient,   you're only 18, and you've already made one of the best decisions of your life....to become healthy before your older and in worse health.   I've been out lots of times on New Year's eve, and the entire time, I wished I was home, snuggled up on my own couch, watching a good movie or reading a good book.    Tomorrow is a brand new day, a brand new year,  and you sweet beautiful girl are on your way to a brand new life,  don't end this year  by wishing it away with death.   Death is forever, and we don't get a second chance when it happens.      We all have days and nights that we get lonely and we have doubts,  but you are never alone.... lots of people here  on OH are willing to listen,  and if you believe in God,  He is always waiting to listen,  and He is forever patient with His Children who come to Him with whatever is on their heart.    I'm 49, and waiting on my rny,  and I can't wait until a brand new beginning for me...to be 18 and have the opportunity that I have now,  I would be thrilled....but I can honestly say i've had lots of nights i wished i were out with friends, and have been many times, but  this News Years Eve, I'm happy to be home with family and movies, and good books...  Take care,  and if you need to vent....just let me know,  i've got pretty wide shoulders to cry on...(and always glad to help if i can)... Belinda PS   Leticia is right,  the party for you is just beginning.....so you hang in there, pretty girl.... and hang on.... the ride  you have begun  will be better than any roller coasterf you ever wanted to ride....the way I see it you are on your way to an adventure of a lifetime....

I have a daughter your age and this is some of the best times of your life! I see in your sig line that you're a member of the class of 2008. I bet you've sent out all your college applications and you're waiting to hear if the schools of your choice have accepted you, indeed an exciting time in a young woman's life! Going out on New Years eve is really NO BIG DEAL, trust me been there, done that! I also see that since you're 18 and chose to have WLS to improve your health that you're a VERY mature and responsible young woman. So PLEASE stop feeling sorry for yourself just because you're home this evening, enjoy spending time with your family! I promise you'll look back years later and might just remember this New Year as one of your most memorable.

My 18 year old son is home with us.  He and his dad are playing x-box.  He isn't out partying.  In fact he doesn't drink.  So tell dad you aren't the only one.  I'm sorry you are feeling like you are.  Your life is a journey and you take it down each path.  Tonight will probalby be the last NYE you are alone.  I'm home with people and I'm bored to death - so I totally relate.

well now that i have had a good cry, and vented. i feel a little bit better. i am not going to let stupid comments ruin my last new years eve before i graduate high school. now i am just enjoying my time with my little brother, my younger cousin, and my brothers friend. may not be very mature company but i am having fun with them. (they have had a little much sugar today and are acting just plain silly.) besides this is also my last new years eve as the old me.  i think i am looking forward to a new year new me.
