Losing after 3 years???

Hi All, I have a question for the people who are several years postop.  Did anyone start losing again after 3 years?  I am asking this, because I am a little more than 3 years post op, and I have started losing again.  I originally got down to 102 pounds (which is too thin for me...I start looking drawn and very bony)...then I gained up to 112 pounds (I hated the number, but looked and felt better)...now I am down to 101.8 this morning.  I have not been trying to lose, it is just happening.  I am wondering if something is wrong, or if this is normal to just have a little period of loss again.   Thanks for any input anyone can give! Well if you didnt change up your diet or exercise routine, or have a bout of the stomach flu... Id say if it were me Id go to the doc and get some blood work run just to be on the safe side.  If you feel good and have changed something about what you are doing... it wouldnt be as urgent for me... but better safe then sorry.

Hello, i am a little over 3 years too.  and i find if ....I do not eat every.... 2 - 3 hours , i lose weight. i absolutely have no desire to eat.   because i eat on schedule and i never skip meals so i never allow myself to get hungry....  i have to force myself to eat. i do not think about food anymore. it is very hard to eat ........when you are not hungry... i just do it.....and eat.... even if it is something small like a yogurt. if I don't eat ......... then i will get sick or faint and ...i will start to lose weight. if I don't eat ENOUGH CALORIES throughout the day... i could end up very sick and i don't want to go to the hospital. so i make sure i supplement my calories ...with protein drinks and also peanut butter and jelly on a light multigrain english muffin ..... and that helps me get my calories in. i also had to cut down on my cardio and only do low intesity exercising.... like fast walking. and now i am at a healthy weight and my weight is stable. My suggestion is to call your nutritionist and surgeon. they can help you with this problem. They can guide you and maybe give you some ideas on foods and menus for you to follow. best wishes to you , please let me know how you are doing. hugss Lizzy

Laura, I’m just over 4 ½ years post-op. I originally dropped to 179lbs Below my Goal of 185lbs, and then bounced back up to 184. Over the last 3 years I have “bobbed” up to 186 and down to 180 without any change in my exercise or eating. One thought…. Are you keeping warm? When you subject yourself to lower temperatures Your body burns more calories to keep the body core temp higher. One of the Guys from the Men’s Forum is in Antarctica And has been given Doctor’s orders to keep his caloric intake above 3200 calories a day to keep from wasting away. Obviously that’s an extreme example, But even little differences make a difference for us further out and maintaining. I correspond with a large number of 4+year out post-ops Over on the QuixoticWLS-MessageBoard

Several there have lost “bounce-back weight” over the years. Perhaps they would have more insight. What is “Typical” for Men seems to vary greatly from ‘Norms’ for Women. Hope it’s just a Bonus of the Winter season! I’d think it would be “Fixable” by adding a tiny bit more Healthy Fats To your typical intake. Best Wishes- Dx

Hey Dx....so if go stand outside nekkid, I can burn more calories and get this stupid bounce back off? No wait....I live on the beach, its almost 80 degrees, and I would scare little kids and sea gulls.  Oh well....it was a thought. Hope you are well.... Hugs from the beach Charlie

I Know! The first time I heard about increased calories needed to overcome the cold? I was ready to go sit in a bathtub full of Ice! "Dang, I knew I should have moved to Maine!" Not Sunny 80 here, But Mississippi has been in the mid-70's some of the week. I'm off to Texas next week through Christmas, So not a lot of chance for a white Christmas there either. Have a Happy Holiday in the tropical beauty! Best Wishes- Dx

I'll be spending Christmas in a hotel room in Dallas.  But no problem.  It will be an adventure. Ya know, I always believed that being cold meant burning more calories, but I read somewhere that its not true.  It has to be true.  If you burn more calories digesting broccoli than digesting ice cream, (well, not for me maybe) then surely the body will burn more trying to stay warm.  Just got in from a walk on the beach...overcast and windy but not cold.  Not in the 80s, but in the 70s anyway.  I tried to get cold.  But nooooooooooooo, I broke a sweat! Hugs Charlie
