Once you have mixed your protein and made your protein shake, how long does it last? I had a nurse tell me that saving the rest to drink at my next meal wasn't a good idea b/c it breaks down...but how long does it take to break down?

Jerome of Unjury had this great answer a few months back, I can't find the exact thread... but here it is in a nutshell.
Whey protein is made from milk.
Once mixed, it needs to be kept cold....just like regular milk.
You should consume it within about 24 hours.
No need to dump out what you don't finish.
Given enough time, it will break down, and you lose the benefits. So, don't mix up more than you can consume in about a 24-48 hour time frame.

Personally, I mix mine up in the morning and let it sit for a few hours in the fridge.... helps the foam and "lumpies" disappate. Then I can drink it at lunch and later as an afternoon "snack."

Hi Sandy You are right...it just needs to be kept cold. The issue is not so much that the protein will break down, but you don't want any bacteria to grow, just as with milk.  :-) I also like your idea of mixing and letting it sit a little while to smooth out.  :-) You (and everyone) have a nice Thanksgiving.  :-) Jerome UNJURY Protein

Hi Zipper - I believe that you are supposed to drink your protein shake within 30 minutes of mixing. Also, if you mix it into pudding, the pudding seems to stabilize the protein so it doesn't break down, meaning you don't have to eat all that pudding in one setting to avoid wasting protein. Good Luck vicki
